This is nowhere near as common as you or the rest of the community make it out to be. Kinda wish you guys would stop pushing this nonsense that everyone is so mean to each other in the DF.

I guess this makes it sound that about 90% of the time you're running into jerks which is not true. It's not that high but it's high enough that it gets acknowledgement. Then again, neither of us can prove it so it's just our own experiences and word of mouth. For example, I was tanking a dungeon for the first time on my DRK. I let them know I was new to tanking so my pull routes might not be optimal. They said okay and helped me along the way. Wonderful people who were well geared and had complete patience with me.

I agree with this 100%. I run my Expert Roulette every day at lunch, as well as the Trials etc. I meet all kinds of nice people and sometimes those that are just outright hilarious. If I see someone with an outrageous or well put together glamor I'll comment on it. The groups will usually chitchat a bit. If someone is new we'll talk strats on bosses. The best part about DF for me is getting paired with new people almost every single time.
