they have a public blacklist? As in a list of names on the forums that everyone blacklists? The idea of that with the NA crowd is...worrying.

It's mostly the demographics that is the problem. JPN uses it to prune off people who are detrimental to a clear/farm party by expecting carries and intentionally not holding their weight. We'd most likeily use it for getting things cleared/on farm rather than prune out undesirables (or their idea of undesirables is just that, people who haven't cleared or capable of farming consistently)

TLR They aren't going to carry you. You have to learn and put in effort. If you do this you are golden, if not you will never see another PF in their community.

The black list isn't mandatory for others to follow, its suggestive, and I don't consider telling others when individuals are dishonest, abusive, or rude to be "public shaming" at all. The japan suicide thing is a little distasteful, off point, off topic, and kinda racist tbh. I'm not sure why it's relevant to the convo. I promise you people aren't killing themselves over not being able to get alex savage PF's...

Well maybe the person should think about their actions before they do them.

If they want to redeem themselves then they surely don't mind having to work extra hard to improve their social standing.

And we are talking about a game here, I don't believe the suicide rates over video games are high to justify avoiding accountability.

I definitely run into people who aren't playing super well and one of many scenarios occurs:

1. Nice person give advice and the player in question accepts it gracefully (best case obviously).

2. Nice person gives advice and the player in question gets salty about it.

3. Mean person gives advice and the player in question accepts it, albeit begrudgingly.

4. Mean person gives advice and the player in question naturally gets offended and an argument ensues.



I was doing a leveling roulette and got Stone Vigil NM. The tank was a DRK and he was...uhhh...questionable let's say. I'm no tanking expert, but I have a basic idea. He was face pulling, not using Unmend, not using Darkside, and apparently didn't even have Blood Price (which he should have by this point). I pointed out these things and he actually seemed receptive (also surprised about a lot of it) and when we finished he thanked me for the help and I told him to go check out his quest giver to get those abilities.

That was a best case scenario because he was willing to learn and lesson and seemed grateful. Also helped the other two didn't yell at him, when he was goofing up. I wanted to get in and out as much as everyone, but if I see someone who's obviously doing something wrong I'll maybe point it out.

That doesnt happen here in AMURICA you dont tell these people how to improve here trust me you'll end being kicked instead, you don't kill these people's "immersion" it's their $15! let them play how they want! Theyre all disabled anyway you're so insensitive for telling them how go play.

On topic Japan talks about us opening up to these players when they're even worse to the players who arent receptive (public name shaming anyone?).

Basically it's a forum where they will post about abusive, disruptive, rude, and dishonest players. This doesn't mean that everyone goes on there and will black list anyone they find on the forum. It.s suggestive. Basically they post the name, server, and evidence (this is a big part) of what they claim happened. Let's say (player was dishonest because they stole stuff from FC chest after joining FC) or whatever. They show a screen shot or chat text of what has happened and post. Now next time the person screws someone over they go search the list and they see someone has put him there, they might add their story too. After they do this so many times people will start to get a bad rep, FC leaders might choose to search the list to see if their applying member is on it and why. Seeing 6 attempts of stealing might change their mind abut adding them to their FC and save the guild a lot of heartache.

But it is self policing, Obviously if you wanted to say screw the list ill give this dude a chance, you can. Thats completely on you though to take the risk. It doesn't stop anyone from getting a second chance, it just informs them of potential risks.

Could it be loaded and people falsely put stuff up there? Sure, but again the person lying and putting up stuff in there is risking their own game play experience and reputation by doing so. It's not a consequence free thing to do and proof is mandatory in the posts.

IMO, I absolutely think reputation is something that should be taken serious in an MMO. Japan has a better and more conducive environment for raids and clears because they do specifically take reputation and honor much much more seriously.

And don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating for this here at all, I'm just saying it's one of the ways that the Japanese community is different than the NA community.

Lets be real here, NA players aren't against public shaming. I've seen it done on here and on reddit for less than deserving things. (like not having swiftcast or low parses)
