I really DO hope Alexander's story steps up, but I don't think it can top Coil's.

Anything we do now can't help anything. Finally, we know he must fully awake because they already show full pic of him. But the story during that is still mystery, you can't guess anything because we don't have any clue like COB that we know we must fight Bahamut at last. In the latest part, dev might give us some surprise plot twist like Mide betray us or big scale raid such as fighting him on the ground and in the air outside with support from NPC. Lore are different from system, they must write full of it already before develop raid for continuity of events. However, they must keep them in secret and can't release all in the 1st part. Same with Void ark, they already told us this ship is only first dungeon of story line. We will go other dungeon in 2nd part. That mean they write whole of story line already and still develop dungeon and event for it. Sometime you must wait a little because the first part is only introduction of most story. In 2.0 we and NPC know about Bahamut and his threat already but Alexander, we and NPC still need to learn and study about it together. We don't know anything about it except basic knowledge about primal. And he still not fully awake now, that is the reason why people don't think it is a threat. When Alexander have more awakening, they will show more story and his threat further. I think 2nd part in 3.2 will tell us more about it and we can guess about 3rd part from the progress of field changing too.
