Oh trust me its in RL a lot right now. At every corner, and a vast majority of it is coming from millennials. Usually ones fresh off of indoctrination from their left wing college professors. Watch the news- every week its a new outrage or a call for something to be banned. We are raising a generation of wimps, who enter adulthood ill prepared for real life. As you work and progress through life more you will see it. I see it all the time. It has little to do with the internet, it is a mindset that many, mostly the far left wing, carry around with them.
This is getting off topic in a way that won't end well
When in doubt, assume sarcasm
When you go through life wanting everyone to iron out the bumpy roads for you, it tends to happen. Many of the replies had gotten ridiculously hyper sensitive and someone needed to call it. Youre playing an online multiplayer game with thousands of other people from all walks of life in a vast open world.....Youre going to run into people who you dont like. Its just part of life. If people are so easily made to feel uncomfortable by a negative social experience in the game that they cant enjoy the game, then they should stick to Witcher 3, Dragon Age, and Fallout 4 - All great games, and no one but NPC characters.
It does not.
WoW's ignore function prevents you from seeing messages from an ignored person and prevents you from being put into a cross-server party/raid with them. Nothing more.
From a programming standpoint, doing what's being asked for here isn't IMPOSSIBLE, but it's definitely tricky and would put a lot of strain on the client for really not much gain since there are already effective avenues to deal with harassment.
I'm going to assume you have never been bullied before. And I'm 34 so I'm not gonna fall into your "millennials" crowd. Unfortunately I was bullied pretty heavily as a kid. So when I get exposed to that kind of treatment, and it actually sticks. It's really a problem.
I'm not sure if you misunderstood, or I'm misunderstanding this question. But I'm uncomfortable with this person because of the bullying I endured from them. I'm not simply uncomfortable with the name itself. I see my tormentor all around, even though I blisted them. Blist only solves some of the issues. If this person continually harassed me I suppose I'd have something else to use, I could GM them away. But I guess fortunately they haven't went any farther. But every sense I had to go through all of that, now every time I see them I'm reminded of what they did, and it causes me undue stress.Really? You get that uncomfortable over a video game character with a certain name?
Have you ever been bullied yourself? Have you ever experienced the anxiety of seeing your tormentor around every corner? Or are you the kind of person that is able to shrug it off and not care? Some people can, and some people can't. Everyone is different. And as far as demanding a change, I think your just putting words in the ops or my mouth. It's just something that would help. We deal with our issues as best we can as is. Like i have, I did what I could. I removed the names from the UI. It's clear to me that you personally have not dealt with this kind of issue. And your right, there is a problem with society. The same problem that we've had forever. And that's making it easy for these types of people to exist and operate. Games in general, or the internet in general creates a world for this type of activity to thrive. You're anonymous.
It's all too easy to abuse. Many players can be rather petulant and encourage their friends and even entire guilds to shun specific players over the slightest perceived slight. Letting people essentially 'erase' other players from the game world is just asking for trouble.
If they're doing something troublesome, report them - chances are they'll be investigated and punished if it's severe enough and cause for genuine concern.
If you're getting upset from just seeing someone's digital avatar, then it is a problem you need to get sorted out. By letting yourself get anxious by just seeing someone you don't want to deal with, you're letting them get to you without them even doing anything and they'll bank on it. People who break up also have to deal with seeing each other if A) they got no choice or B) they happen to run into each other by chance and most of them don't throw a hissy fit just because they saw someone they no longer like. "Get over it" is not always a dismissive response; sometimes you do have to get over it and go beyond it so that you can do what you want without letting some past incident hold you down.
I been bullied before when I was in school and I even contemplated suicide. Since I'm an adult now, I learned not to let some random jerk on the internet bother me since most of their antics are just childish at best and have the power to report a problem player/person or just go elsewhere if it's not working out. No one can help you if you can't help yourself.
Nah I've seen the news and I agree it's ridiculous everyone wants band-aids on everything rather than looking at the root of the issues which lies in people's mentality.Oh trust me its in RL a lot right now. At every corner, and a vast majority of it is coming from millennials. Usually ones fresh off of indoctrination from their left wing college professors. Watch the news- every week its a new outrage or a call for something to be banned. We are raising a generation of wimps, who enter adulthood ill prepared for real life. I guess I could've said it a little different and said the people I've encountered IRL aren't politically correct so I guess from a personal perspective I don't ever see although I am very aware of the ridiculous circus acts you see on the news and social media
