Nah I've seen the news and I agree it's ridiculous everyone wants band-aids on everything rather than looking at the root of the issues which lies in people's mentality.
I guess I could've said it a little different and said the people I've encountered IRL aren't politically correct so I guess from a personal perspective I don't ever see although I am very aware of the ridiculous circus acts you see on the news and social media

If you cant see the difference between historical moments, and people being outraged that Target has a boys toy section and a girls toy section, then you are a bit blind.

Alright. I am going to comment on something annoying me. I brought this up as a possible solution to people griefing other players with emote spam or simply hovering around when they've already been blacklisted for prior issues. Essentially, they are just trying to be irritating. This has nothing whatsoever to do with "growing a ticker skin" or millennials, but merely not wanting to have another player purposely act like an asshole. Why the subject even drifted to that nonsense is beyond me.

It's not the coding itself, but the implications of the code. It's the largely unnecessarily wasted resources spent handling the conditional decisions and on-the-spot alteration of client-side character graphics that are the biggest hurdle to overcome. The client would need to check to see if every single character it happens to load is on your blacklist or not every time it is time to load character graphics assets and any time your blacklist is updated. By itself, it's a small process. But it's little things like this that add up and cause problems with program efficiency.

That's the gist of it. It's up to Square to determine whether or not they see the resources worth using on something like this. Given that limited resources are one of the things Square generally uses as a reason to not implement a feature, I wouldn't get your hopes up.

If you grow irritated by simply seeing someone from your blacklist continue to obviously try and irritate you despite only being able to see their character and nothing more, then it has very much to do with how thin your skin is. Why do you let their antics bother you when it's as slight as seeing their character go through the motions? I mean, that kind of thing is precisely what having thin skin means.

(Note: I mean "you" in a general sense, not you in particular.)

I agree that the "millennials" mention was completely off the mark, though. As that particular topic always is.

No offense, however that makes no sense. In this particular instance, the person was purposely griefing an RP we were having by emote spamming and using flashy abilities. In what manner is getting annoyed by someone interrupting us deemed "you need a thicker skin?" Sure, we did ignore him, but that isn't the point. This isn't tumblr, where something as little as proper capitalization (or lack thereof) can "trigger" someone. Basically, you're saying people shouldn't get annoyed at all.

Growing a thicker skin means being unable to handle criticism or getting offended over someone calling you stupid on the Internet. It shouldn't be carte blanche.

I've been told that's exactly how WoW's blacklist works. Nothing is impossible!

    It does not.

WoW's ignore function prevents you from seeing messages from an ignored person and prevents you from being put into a cross-server party/raid with them. Nothing more.

From a programming standpoint, doing what's being asked for here isn't IMPOSSIBLE, but it's definitely tricky and would put a lot of strain on the client for really not much gain since there are already effective avenues to deal with harassment.

Really? You get that uncomfortable over a video game character with a certain name?
I'm not sure if you misunderstood, or I'm misunderstanding this question. But I'm uncomfortable with this person because of the bullying I endured from them. I'm not simply uncomfortable with the name itself. I see my tormentor all around, even though I blisted them. Blist only solves some of the issues. If this person continually harassed me I suppose I'd have something else to use, I could GM them away. But I guess fortunately they haven't went any farther. But every sense I had to go through all of that, now every time I see them I'm reminded of what they did, and it causes me undue stress.

Have you ever been bullied yourself? Have you ever experienced the anxiety of seeing your tormentor around every corner? Or are you the kind of person that is able to shrug it off and not care? Some people can, and some people can't. Everyone is different. And as far as demanding a change, I think your just putting words in the ops or my mouth. It's just something that would help. We deal with our issues as best we can as is. Like i have, I did what I could. I removed the names from the UI. It's clear to me that you personally have not dealt with this kind of issue. And your right, there is a problem with society. The same problem that we've had forever. And that's making it easy for these types of people to exist and operate. Games in general, or the internet in general creates a world for this type of activity to thrive. You're anonymous.

People who break up also have to deal with seeing each other if A) they got no choice or B) they happen to run into each other by chance and most of them don't throw a hissy fit just because they saw someone they no longer like. "Get over it" is not always a dismissive response; sometimes you do have to get over it and go beyond it so that you can do what you want without letting some past incident hold you down.

I been bullied before when I was in school and I even contemplated suicide. Since I'm an adult now, I learned not to let some random jerk on the internet bother me since most of their antics are just childish at best and have the power to report a problem player/person or just go elsewhere if it's not working out. No one can help you if you can't help yourself.
