If they add lots of features that increase character data a lot, then they will no longer be able to make backups of our data as frequently as they do to protect us from rollbacks if we DC or the servers crash.
The problem is that they've lied to us so many times they've started contradicting themselves, nor do they actively make an effort to fix the issue in other ways.

Player: "Okay, we can't have more inventory or armour space, but what about a free retainer or two with the purchase of Heavensward? Those take place on different instances of the server, right?"
Yoshida: "That is not possible, the servers will explode."
Player: "Why are there retainers available on the Mogstation?"
Yoshida: "Please rent more retainers if you wish to have more inventory."

Player: "Well, alright... Can you fix up some items so we don't have to waste inventory and retainer space? Have items stack in more than 99, unify glamour prisms into one item (or just remove grades), put Alexander item tokens into the key items inventory..."
Yoshida: "..." proceeds to put more inventory wasting items in

Player: "Can you increase the backup timer to 30 seconds? We believe 15 is unnecessary for the 1 in a million chance of losing something actually valuable, and the cons far outweigh that one thing."
Yoshida: more nonsense
