This thread is very satisfying. I'm glad so many are seeing the idiocy of SE's decision in this. xD
Major kudos to the person who did the hilarious but awesome mock-up. Surely some day they will see reason?

Well I suppose if storage is really a must, we do have a "free" option, we can just buy a house and....oh...yeah. Nevermind.
My interpretation is that if they were going to increase character data, they would just give us more general inventory space rather than doing something like a glamor catalog (or fishing tackle box).
They also explain that FF XIV character data is already much larger than other mmos, so direct comparisons cannot be made.
If they add lots of features that increase character data a lot, then they will no longer be able to make backups of our data as frequently as they do to protect us from rollbacks if we DC or the servers crash.
The problem is that they've lied to us so many times they've started contradicting themselves, nor do they actively make an effort to fix the issue in other ways.My interpretation is that if they were going to increase character data, they would just give us more general inventory space rather than doing something like a glamor catalog (or fishing tackle box).

Player: "Okay, we can't have more inventory or armour space, but what about a free retainer or two with the purchase of Heavensward? Those take place on different instances of the server, right?"
Yoshida: "That is not possible, the servers will explode."
Player: "Why are there retainers available on the Mogstation?"
Yoshida: "Please rent more retainers if you wish to have more inventory."
Player: "Well, alright... Can you fix up some items so we don't have to waste inventory and retainer space? Have items stack in more than 99, unify glamour prisms into one item (or just remove grades), put Alexander item tokens into the key items inventory..."
Yoshida: "..." proceeds to put more inventory wasting items in
Player: "Can you increase the backup timer to 30 seconds? We believe 15 is unnecessary for the 1 in a million chance of losing something actually valuable, and the cons far outweigh that one thing."
Yoshida: more nonsense
Not having to carry around glamour gear gives players more inventory. Imagine that.
Pretty much this. It gave me a good chuckle. The problem is that they've lied to us so many times they've started contradicting themselves, nor do they actively make an effort to fix the issue in other ways.Player: "Okay, we can't have more inventory or armour space, but what about a free retainer or two with the purchase of Heavensward? Would it kill them to make the 1000 day vet reward an additional retainer or something?
141 minions, 40 mounts. 755 head pieces. Notice that? That's just head pieces. Let's ignore the "common" ones. 182 blue, 230 green, 412 in total, Let's just assume Head, Body, hand, legs, feet are the same 412, 412x5 2060. Again 141 minions, 40 mounts, 2060 slots for "glamor catalog" to support 2060 pieces of gear and I haven't even gotten to weapons yet.The funny thing is, the very same thing is currently in game in the form of minions and to a lesser extent, mounts.
Saying "If we could, we would" is completely and utterly false and is only an excuse to cover up the real reason.
Which is that they want more people to pay for extra retainers because money duh.
That's what people are missing, yes they have a system like the one people hope for in minions and mounts but the amount of minions and mount even together aren't even close to the amount of space that would be used with armor in the game.
Even the fishing guide is only 423 and I say only because that's been something which has increased since 2.0 and yet at 3.0 we are at 423 however if you wanted them to implement a catlog that would need to be 2060 + weapons + accessories which add up. 377 blue weapons, 530 green weapons, 29 blue shields, 44 green shield, 134 green rings and 97 blue rings. Just say all accessories are the same like armor so 231x4, 924.
That's 3964 slots for basically all the gear up til now give or take and I"m not even counting common loot, this is purely based on blue and green gear.
Now let's put this into perspective.
141 minions
40 mounts
423 Fish
964 Total.
Glamor Catalog=3964. Catalog would be 3000 more than what the above currently have so trying to compared a system that uses a fraction of what the catalog would end up using doesn't work because so much more data will be used to setup that catalog compared to the amount of data currently being used to support the minion/mount/fish combined. And I believe there are only 100 Triple Triad cards so that's just 1064 to the total amount of "space" being used in those system compared to what the catalog would use if it only took from blue/green.
