Thinking this game is a bad investment

This is a game coupled with an online social community. Since when did "investing" had to do with anything?

Don't think of it as a job or chore where you are expecting something back in return.

Think of it as a way to pass the time, while lol'ing the night away with friends. Cheaper than liquor cleaner than a party, more entertaining than watching sports. To top it off, video gaming has surpassed the hollywood movie industry in revenue. One of the best and cheapest forms of entertainment.

It is interesting, that everyone wants his own house without any downfall. Remember in RL would everyone build a house for just himself? I bet there wouldn't be any woods anymore on our planet.
Reality is, most houses are build by families to make it their homes. FCs are our families in Eorzea. Build your house with them, you even get your Hobby Room for own creativity.

For everyone who's against this, you do realise that the alternative to the new system is what we have now, which basically prevent anyone from buying a house ever again unless someone voluntarily demolishes theirs? SE cannot simply add more servers and network beef to cope with this, or at least they won't for some time to come. Housing is likely one of the most resource-intensive parts of this game and yet a large part of it isn't used by active players. That is simply wrong, and they're trying to fix that.

IMO they should have left housing limited to FCs at least until they get new servers. But Pandora's Box is opened and everyone is left making the Sonic fanbase look outright chummy in comparison

I own a medium house and I find the housing thing a fair method. What if you level to 60 and get enough money to buy a house, but there's no free space to buy one? You wouldn't get that experience.

And if you're going to leave this game for 35+ days, then it means you don't care about it anyways, or you are a MMO jumper that can't play a game seriously.
I understand your point, but it's not fair for people that actually care about the game. They deserve a house too :/

Also, logging between 35 days and entering your house is easy, even if you're on vacations or whatever. You can have a friend to log into your account, or log into another PC or console and do it to reset the timer etc. There's no excuse at all, except if you run out of money and can pay it, then you have a worse problem than losing an imaginary house.

I believe a while back I heard that World of Warcraft cost $100,000 to run for a single day, and that game has way, way, waaaay more servers than this game. If WoW for how enormous it is costs that much to run for a day, take a small fraction of that for what it costs SE to run this much smaller game, and compare that to how much they get in a month.

This game is like printing money for them, and just like Blizzard, I don't see hardly any of it going back into the game. It's fine to make a profit, but changing enormous parts of the fundamental game just to have to get around doing any actual work is pretty messed up.

So I went to check the numbers and FFXIV has 26% of WoW's server capacity (64 to 246) and 9% (500k) to 18% (1m) of their subs (5.6m Q2 2015). Server cost to subscriber ratio is actually almost three times worse with FFXIV in the worst case. Then there's also wages and taxes and million other things.

No doubt it's making a profit, because there probably wouldn't never have been an expansion and real euro servers otherwise, but I've never liked the "subs x monthly fee = gazillions of profit" logic.

On topic. You're supposed to be an adventurer, why are you sweating so much over the house?! This is a fantasy game where you are travelling all over the world and house doesn't seem really necessary (unless you're a crafter). Where is your travelling spirit, people?)

All of this. People just look at the supposed profit without taking into account expenses. It's a two way street people.

And as for Housing, I remember I was right there being excited about the potential of decorating more than my old Mog Room (from FFXI) but after seeing the price of a house, the price of cool furniture, the time investment in crafting to save money and after trying to decorate a small room of my FC's home, I said "screw it".

Homes in this game are meant to form a community, and because of the price, they are meant to get people to work together. Housing is, by far, the biggest money sink in this game and you people wanna go at it all alone for the sake of virtual e-peen? And on top of that you want to just leave it there to take up space long after you're gone to play Destiny (just a placeholder game)? All the while saying "SE is the big baddie here taking away my home (millions of gil) while im off on my extended vacation of 35+ days"; First World Virtual-First-World Problems.

Screw you. Let the living (current players) move in and jazz up the place.
