Online RPG are far better for scenaries.
Mmo should really focus on content such as pve/pvp/crafting, instead of trying to offer an only average story (actually less than average).
Tasteless characters, childish conversations and events... Well FFXIV is a very bad place for experienced role players.
There are still Mmo that are very good for that. Did you tried Neverwinter Nights 1, 2 & 3 ? The Secret world ? Star wars TOR ? You currently have guilds full of rp players, or even "wild rp" whenever you want. The stories and backgrounds in those kind of games are so much detailed. All day longs you have role play events created by players like fight between factions or conferences or "politic" debate (around the story of the game of course) and complexe investigations. You have military guild, you have spy guilds, you have villains guilds, you have merchant guilds (really, they shoot adverts on the chat about what they can craft for you) you have "lore guilds"...
Believe me, the only good things in FFXIV are : crafting 8/10 (very advanced) characters graphic 8/10 and class/job style 7/10 (and the soundtrack too yes)
Housing (3/10) : reserved to rich players (not everyone is interested by accumulating currency) and not really advanced (the old Rune of magic mmo was even better for that)
Fight (5/10) : nothing new. That's the classic system since 90'. Concerning HL pve it's all about learning guides. You like or not... it sure is not new.
Pvp (3/10) : it could be great. For now it's pretty bad and i'm not talking about the pvp map conception (it's really bad too). I wont go into details cause it's gonna be complexe for me to translate. To make it simple : for now we should only have 8vs8 and 4vs4 map and there is this problem with melee class that miss there attack if their target is moving (if you follow you shouldn't have problem to hit)
