45 days is a fine amount of time.

In my opinion, housing should be used by active players. You aren't active if you aren't playing. And you get back 80% of the purchase price if it is abandoned. And if you don't log on in time to get that, why are you complaining about the loss of virtual real estate in a game you aren't even playing?

So you'd be fine then if they.. say... deleted all items and gil off characters who arent logged in in 45 days? Or maybe the characters themselves as well.

I mean, afterall those are taking up "server resources" as well. And who cares about the loss of virtual items in a game you aren't even playing...

Are you serious? I'm guessing you've never been deployed or had financial issues or been severely sick or injured? For the people who have its a real kick in the gut to come back to the game you love and discover your stuff is gone. Especially since the time limit for demolition and retrieving your items is so short. 45 day before demolition, 35 days before your stuff disappears. Sounds like crap considering the average deployment is at least 3-6months and is usually far longer. No telling how long someone will be in the hospital after a serious illness or a bad accident. What about when someone's computer breaks down and they need to save up for the sudden expense. There's the dedicated college kids/adults how play during the summer and on holidays while they focus the rest of the time on their work. There are literally hundreds of different reasons life could force you away form the game for an extended period so why should players be punished for dealing with real life? I certainly wouldn't want to continue playing a game if I came back and all the stuff I'd worked so hard for was gone.

SE already announced you will be able to share a personal home with up to 5 people. If you get sick, are deployed etc., once SE allows you to share a house, make sure to share w/ a trusted friend (or 2) who you know will remain active during your absence and you will not lose your home. This is the easiest fix for someone in this situation.

    Or.

Appeal to SE not to 'save everyone's home due to these unique situations, but instead to offer a way via customer support, that you could give them the proper documentation needed explaining your reason for needing an extended leave, and having them hold your stuff accordingly.

Or...pay for your game even though you are deployed...Service men, people dealing with real life sickness, work stuff etc, still have to pay their real life bills to keep their cars, homes, electric on etc. The government (depending on your country/deployment etc), might help you with some of the real life stuff, etc...but typically, bills are still paid even if deployed...after all, being in the Military is a paying job.

Not quite sure you grasp real life

First off sharing a house does squat since they made it strictly up to the owner to stop it from being demolished. Secondly, and this is the big kicker that is pissing most people off, just paying the sub won't stop demolition. When I was deployed on a ship I couldn't exactly bring my gaming desktop with me for 6 months and I was single so I didn't have anyone to pop in and log in for me, not to mention the fact I have an authenticator so that wouldn't be an option anyways. Remember SE doesn't sell physical authenticators and I'm not leaving my phone in an empty apartment for 6+ months. If we could just pay our subs and not have to worry about a time limit that wouldn't be as bad, still a money grab from hell that no other MMO has ever done to their player base, but would still be manageable. The first houses will be freeing up around christmas and guess what there will still be a vast housing shortage across all servers because they only made enough houses for about 1-2% of the player population. A little over 1k houses per server is like putting a drop in an empty pond and expecting it be full. This is a quick grab at money and placating to everyone screaming. Its not going to fix the problem at all but everyone who called for this is so proud of themselves and think they did so well until this goes sideways and people start getting screwed. For a game that advertises housing for its players not only have they failed miserably at delivering but now they're taking houses away unless you pay them and have time to get on. Imagine if this wasn't housing. Imagine if instead it was gear or levels. You'd be pretty pissed if you weren't able to log in and after 45days you started loosing hard earned levels or gear. Well housing is pretty dang hardwork to save up for and maintain. I spend time crafting and gardening just so that I can have my own little spot. If I can't make it to my computer after just a month and half and I lose all my hardwork because of something purely out of my control then I'm not going to pay for a sub to a game that screwed me and I'm gonna warn everyone else I know who plays. Honestly you'd be shocked how many service member play MMOs. There's a lot of us and none are going to put up with getting screwed over for doing their job.
