How is bringing back an entire game even comparable in the amount of effort it would require? This is literally just throwing the items on the Mogstation, they do that all the time.Considering this is an mmo which constantly gets newer subscribers SE can't ever pull that event down to accommodate EVERYONE. that'd be like bringing 1.0 back for the "main scenario that all subscribers got to see" during that time. To have all subscribers always have a chance at all events seems like an unwinnable battle.
There ya go, you made that point and did not expect me to offer up a rebuttal on that?
Says the person who just wrote a short essay about it.
Secondly, you say "it's called reality". You do realize, this is a video game, right? As in...you know...not reality? >o>()
This isn't some one-of-a-kind, handcrafted, artisan masterpiece, it's coding. While the actual creating the 3D model is time consuming, once it is made, it's pretty easy to plop it into the game whenever, where ever. They probably didn't circulate your horn into 2.x because it would mess with SMN's horned aesthetic and it's a very niche item.

This one gets it.
Yeah, the short essay about people needing to get over not getting items they want because they (the writer) had to get over not getting the item they want. :B
I will reference you to my previous post.
Let me highlight it even more for ya.You can still get the horn in 2.0 if you have the achievement, it's in circulation and any 1.0 toons who unlocked it can still use it. So, that whole aesthetic argument really holds no weight.
My longer post about raiding was about creating dialogue between raiders and non raiders, sorry if you felt like that was my personal statement of "to hell with everyone else, give me mah pixels." It was about a variety of motivations and challenges that face raiders. Pretty sure I said the reason I raid is for the sense of challenge and story, you should go back and read the post more carefully. If you're going to try and cross reference another post to help prove your point in this thread, at least bother to carefully read the source you're citing so you don't look like a presumptuous buffoon.
Don't you think it's presumptuous of you to assume it's just simple coding fix to put the item in the cash shop or to reintroduce the event?
Lastly, just because this is a fantasy world does not mean it's exempt from real life effects, such as time. Everything has a shelf life, even this game being on live servers has a shelf life. I am sorry if that concept escapes you.

And once again for emphasis:

Yes, and then I asked "What does raiding have to do with the FFXIII items coming back and/or going in the cash shop?"
You do realize the "essay" I'm talking about is your post before that one, right? >o>()
yeah, it's called reality, people miss out. The difference is children whine when they miss out on something and can't get their way.
Adults accept that there are consequences with time moving forward and act accordingly.
Do I really lament about the dalamud horn? Nope, it's just one of many cool looking head pieces in the game, I can find another. It simply serves as an example that things are not available indefinitely. I am not going to demand, like some infantile spoiled brat, that 1.0 players give up their unique 1.0 loot to sate some obsessive impulse to have everything in the game.
Check my post history, I did not even bother posting when the event came back, because I did not care. What I do care about is when SE decides to not bring the event back and people whine and complain about it. The FFXIV team is much smaller than other MMO's. I would rather them work on new events instead of revisiting old ones.
They are just pixels, get over it.
Ten sentences constitute a short essay? Well, that's my bad for assuming that you were talking about something that was actually an essay format and not a short reply.
That aside, SE has retired some 2.0 content. They might bring the event back, they might not. Either way, it's up to SE's discretion and they made their choice, people have to deal with it.

This is the internet, anything that is more then 5 words is a short story. >w>
It may be up to SE but if people voice their desire for it, especially for something that is as easy and lucrative as adding already existing items to the Cash Shop, there really is no excuse. >w>
Yeah, except there is only a handful of people clamoring for this stuff to return. Most people understand the concept of "missing out" and just continue on enjoying the game. Would SE make money putting the lightning/DQ rewards, dalamud horn and legacy goubbue in the cash shop? Absolutely! They would make money hand over fist. Should they do it? Nope. This is the internet, anything that is more then 5 words is a short story. >w>

There are countless outfits and gear in this game that are currently available. Dev time and resources are better spent on new events, items, and content. Even if it just takes one person a single work day to put the rewards in the cash shop, I rather that person be working on anything new rather that satisfying a handful of Johnny-come-latelies. My guess is it would take longer than a single work day from a single person to put the event back into the game or the items on the cash shop. I am not going to pretend to be a developer or make absolute assertions about what it takes to make these rewards available again, but I am pretty sure it's not a simple line of code to switch the event "on" or put the items in the shop.
Some food for thought. First and foremost, SE is a business. I am sure the idea has been discussed internally about putting those DQ/lightning event items in the cash shop. They probably have some justification as to why they are not in there right now. It's not like this thread was a brand new idea they would have not thought of themselves. I would bet irl money that they talked about selling the items, but decided not to because they might bring the event back in the future or they wanted to retire the promotion of ff13/DQ.
Either way, they have a reason of some sort, just have to deal with it.

Eh.
I'm gonna go with "tough noogies, you missed the event," on this one.
I wouldn't be surprised that they will eventually be up in the Cash Shop, but I wouldn't hold my breath for them.
On the argument of niche items, it's safe to say the players has earned them when the event took place. Yeah, you do see dated items like the Yukatas and now the Robes in the Cash Shop, but these are traditional to the Eorzean lore.
The Lightning event, however, was not. It was simply to promote the third installment of FFXIII. A crossover between games. A one-time occurrence.
In the end of the event storyline, Lightning straight up states she would most likely not remember the player and Eorzea, nor could she freely return to Eorzea. She just goes wherever she is told to go. Which is why the event was called "Lightning Strikes" and "Lightning Strikes Twice," to promote the game on their release dates in real life.
I hope this makes sense.
As much as I don't mind it being in the Cash Shop, SE is pretty known to get their lore on point and have it make sense for Eorzea. I'm sure we'll get cooler items and hairstyles in future events.
"Johnny-come-latelies", really? So you're better then everyone who came into this game after you? Way to demean and trivialize a whole group of people while elevating yourself solely based on something so trivial as join date. By your own logic, you're a Johnny-come lately compared to me.
And while people may understand the concept of "missing out" on a digital event, that doesn't mean they can't voice their opinions on it, nor does it mean they should just give up on them. Until a dev chimes in, the option is still on the table. Not to mention, some of those people who understand the concept might still actual want the pieces.
Not to mention your two other examples, the Legacy Goubbue and the Horn aren't good examples. They already have an alternative to the Legacy Goubbue from the Sylph beast tribe quest and that horn has a small, niche audience versus the Lightning Strikes event items, which are pure fan service and much more easier to make nice outfits with.
