eso weapons vs relic weapons

For storage, yes. Sadly, a retainer cannot equip an esoteric weapon as it's job-only. Same reason you cannot give them a relic to equip.
For this reason I believe people are thinking the esoteric weapon is needed for the relic. But we'll just have to wait ans see.

Back when this was discussed when the ESO weapons were first implemented this one was a no brainer as since then it's been a long time and you would have acquired decent value out of the eso weapon. Still I would say get the ESO weapon, they did state that eventually Retainers will be able to be jobs. Of course you also have to factor in the point that the relic isn't going to just be handed to you and could require either a grind (Atma style) or a gauntlet (much like the original kill chimera/hydra/ifrit/garuda/titan for the original relic) it is likely to require some kind of item based stage too much like the original relic once again requiring an item level 55 materia melded item.

If it is just a mindless fate grind like Atma the ESO weapon won't really provide much advantage, if it is item based as people have previously alluded to it could easily be the eso weapon due to its styling (Previous main quest givers for the job quests held the original "relic" up to level 50 and in DRK's case (I don't know the others) the job quest NPC up to 60 has the eso weapon as theirs on top of the job only equip could offer some kind of potential idea towards it being an item for the relic quests.

Finally if it does require some kind of primal or trial events the ESO weapon would atleast provide a significant benefit in being optimally equipped to face the trials.

I'll put my cents betting on Relic weapon grindfrest involving a lot the Sky Islands... for which the weakest monster is said to be as strong as an A-Rank Hunt Mark...

Getting the Eso weapon will at the very least help you if that is the case. (Or it could be the base weapon for the relic :v)

My guess is the Esoterics weapons will be needed for the relic in some way or another, since they're job-specific, but we probably won't know for sure until we get the patch (since they've never really given us much info on relic stages in advance).

Esoterics will not be related to the relic quest whatsoever. You have to beat savage A4 to even upgrade your eso weapon to 210, they're not gonna require savage lol.

Even if it turns out to be true though, which I highly doubt, I'll probably ragequit. My esoteric weapon is crappy enough, I don't need my relic having the same stats as that thing.

If you are dps you should be using whatever the highest ilvl weapon available is. At 3.1 two things are likely going to happen, the eso weapons will be able to be upgraded to 210 and the relic quest will drop. Chances are there will be a hours and hours of grinding involved and there's a good chance it won't be bis until the end of the 3.1 cycle before 3.2 drops the new raid.
So realistically you probably have another month and a half until you get a relic that's comparable to the eso weapon.

Weapon is always the largest upgrade so personally as a dps and tank I always get them no matter what. But whether the value is good enough for you is completely up to you.

Uh... The eso weapon can already be upgraded to 210. >.> Not sure if serious. That and it's worth noting that the myth weapons in 2.0 were the base for the relic weapons. Also, for no patch cycle except the very end of the series where no more patches come out (that is, 2.5, 3 months after ilvl upgraded to 135) were relics BiS. So I'd expect the same thing here, with relics always being a patch behind. Also Raid weapons aren't a higher level than the time weapons anymore, so there is literally zero chance for the relic weapon to be comparable to the highest tiered raid weapon, especially when few people have cleared it. Of course, that being said, Weapon level for relic will probably be 200-205 (210 maybe when/if they bump the gordian weapons to 215, like they did with the allagan weapons in 2.1).

It's hardly "spreading misinformation" since I said it was "My guess" and that we "probably won't know for sure" until we get 3.1. It's just a hunch I've got since we've generally only had job-specific weapons for relics (with the exception being SCH and now, the new jobs, which have no base classes). Additionally, the first relic line did involve spending Mythology tomes initially (for Zenith), which were the 2.0 equivalent of Esoterics now. My current thought is that we'll use the Esoterics i200 weapon as a base and the "relic" version will be 210 with the stat array chosen (as was the case with Novus). Let me be clear so as not to ruffle any feathers: that's just my best guess as to how it will work at this point but I could be entirely wrong.

Well let me clarify first. I am a MNK main w/ an eso weapon thats switching to a SCH main and I plan on doing whatever sch relic is coming. With 5 weeks til Relic weapon I could only get a weapon + body (have the rest in alex gear) and yeah I know there will still be Esos coming into to get the rest of my eso gear but I just didnt wanna feel like I wasted 3 weeks of Eso gear. Atleast the chest would still be useful. But I do see what everyone is saying honestly and so I probably will just suck it up and get the eso weapon D:
