Coil didn't really feel all that epic, at least imho. Alexander felt bigger to me, but I will admit that Coil's story, or rather, the last part of the coil storyline was a hell of a lot better. FCoB's story, while not quite epic, was still interesting. My only gripe with Alex's story is the protagonist doesn't seem to have much of a personality. And the Oppressor looks like a steam punk baby lawn mower. That single eye...
Coil for the most part was a short series of rooms. Much like Alex. The *only* thing it had going for it was the story that went all the way back to 1.0. That's it. The zone itself was incredibly unimpressive.
