Hmm, I'm going to assume that the non-mindless grunts (Halicarnassus) that were able to manifest without the need of a dead body (like the succubus that possessed Cocobusi) are the 3rd hell level types. That just makes things worse, because it sounds like the fellow in the diary was an amateur necromancer/demon summoner... Bad news.

Well, what possessed Cocobusi couldn't have been a Succubus. Succubi only possess the dead bodies of women, and Cocobusi is the youngest of six males (the other five being the head of the Thaumaturge guild).

But what you fight that comes out of his body is a named voidsent with the succubus model.

Well then it's a Succubus-appearing voidsent, but not actually a Succubus. We know that Succubi possess dead female bodies, not living male ones.

Everbody to your corners! Back to your cornersss! ... Okay, tap gloves.

Mormo was an unusually powerful succubus imprisoned in an aether-draining urn by the mages of Sil'dih. When the urn was opened instead of shattered, the critically weak succubus possessed Cocobusi because he was the first thing she encountered. Possession is not the same as manifestation; succubi manifest in this realm using female corpses. Mormo, however, was too powerful to simply slip through one of the small rifts that form between the corporeal world and the void and into a fresh corpse. She needed to snack on quite a bit of aether to get the job done, and used Cocobusi's body to drain it from local thaumaturges.

In the LV30 quest, Mormo has stolen alllmost enough aether to manifest, so she uses Cocobusi's body to seduce a few female adventurers and lure them to a cave to be slaughtered, one of them being her final thaumaturge victim, who escapes because Cocobusi's brother offers his own aether, instead, trusting that Mormo can't resist consuming the energy of a mage as powerful as he and that the Warrior of Light will successfully slay her as soon as she takes form.

Mormo visibly abandons Cocobusi and materializes from the three female corpses in the cave.

Bonus Trivia: When Mormo realizes she might lose, she re-animates their discarded skeletons as Ashkin wights.

As of the writing of the diary, Amadine is still human. He's simply comparing the beauty of the high succubus to her without knowing that, ironically, she herself would one day become possessed by one.

Either way, the guy has a corpse and he's trying to summon a succubus into it so he can ...get down... with it, and he totally botches the attempt.

Just for fun, here's my trademark combined and paraphrased version of all four languages' contributions and characterizations.

...wait, a minute. ...Ultros?... Is that why he's so lewd!?
Olde thread, I know... But Amandine is - was a Duskwight Elezen.

"Human" is not a very user-friendly term in Eorzea, now that you mention it. I meant it more as a way to imply that she still had her person-hood - her "humanity" - not that she was hyuran. She just wasn't yet a voidsent's meatsuit. The game very rarely uses the word human, but it has on occasion, in a similar context. The French name definitely implies Elezen, though did we get anything to assume Clan? A lot of Duskwights resisted joining Gridania.

(Bonus: Amandine is a French name given to various substances containing almonds, though it could also just come from Amanda, which means loveable or worthy of love and seems to fit better with her story.).

Llymlaen's flow, but this is an interesting thread!

Thinking further about the gradations between succubuses, the Manor Maidservants and Lady's Handmaidens are clearly less powerful than the Manor Claviger, who in turn is less powerful than Lady A, who is less powerful than Halicarnassus. One wonders if there is a promotion path available? Consume x number of souls and get a rank up?

I also like the idea that it was Ultros who was accidentally summoned in the attempt to achieve a succubus.

She's described as a "wealthy Duskwright" in the dungeon description for Haukke Manor in the Duty Finder. Maybe House Dartancours is actually originally from Ishgard and not Gridania?
