So... if the beast tribes are killed off, the ascians will stop teaching people to summon primals and everyone will hold hands?
We've never had the chance to look at Garlean politics. Moreover, Penelo in FFXII is one of the most hated characters for bringing nothing to the story of the game.
, without her i'd doubt we would have met Larsa. She's the link between Arcadia and Rabanastre. But its actually the reason we can finish the war with Arcadis

The Beastmen (well, many of them) are my friends. The Empire is our common enemy.
The Empire tends to be better written. They have clear and meaningful goals that they express directly. I felt like I understood and identified with the empire characters in 2.0's plot far more than with the Scions, particularly - they were enigmatic to the point of seeming to have no clear goals whatsoever. I felt a marked lack of connection to any of the Scions, who never really told me what they hoped to achieve in the greater scheme of things. I can't have been the only one to whom that seemed odd.
The Empire, on the other hand, has been pretty blunt about their goals, and their actions follow suit - enforce a social order that just so happens to completely suppress the development of primals, who have the clear and present potential to be far more insideous and harmful than even your run of the mill totalitarian regime. And they're obviously meritocratic - no more fetching kupo nuts for me!
Yeah, I'd side with the Empire in a heartbeat. Rat what remains of the Scions out, for certain - they were never really forthright with me, now, were they? Beastmen? Boo-hoo. Eikon lovers, idolators. They ought to apply to the Empire if they want to distance themselves from the activities of their peers.
"KILL THEM ALL!" is the clearest and most meaningful of goals. It's the real goal of the Empire, and of many other entities in past, present and (short, alas) future.
I don't think they are that much better written than the opposing side. The empire has no redeeming qualities, no goal beyond "kill everyone who opposes us and take over everything", and have no qualities that makes me want to sympathize with them. The empire can appear to be "cooler" just because of their execution and their style, but for me, it takes a lot more than that to get me to like them. Wait, I do like one thing about them; they're easy to beat up.
Oh yeah. I forgot to put in the meeting with main characters factor. FF12 would end pretty differently if larsa never met the heroes. We've never had the chance to look at Garlean politics. Moreover, Penelo in FFXII is one of the most hated characters for bringing nothing to the story of the game.

Likewise with the empire. If we simply assassinate the emperor while he's in eorzea, the ruling body of the empire can spin a propaganda that paints us as the villain. And that propaganda might cause those good few to turn against us.
We'll be known not as the hero who fights to defend life but as a cowardly villain who is trying to destroy the empire and everything in it when we killed the visiting emperor.
hmmm..... thinking about it. If SE intend to go that route, they can always use Nero.
blunt and clear purposed, true.
But I can hardly say "KILL THEM ALL!" to be better written.
