Are healers lazy or do some really live by "I only heal"?

So as a main lvl 60 PLD with ilvl 190+ gear, it pains me to see a healer stand around doing nothing when I'm clearly near full health and don't require any healing for at least 4-5 seconds. (Even more so when fighting bosses and they are casting an attack)

I usually find this behavior in my expert duty roulette. Sometimes I inspect the healer gear and they have 190 alex gear, which means they obviously should know how to dps and heal.

I understand that some players religiously believe in the phrase, "I'm a healer so I only heal." which is fine if that's what they believe. I guess I'm just looking for answers as to why players who play like that find it fun? I've started a healer and I find it so much fun having to balance watching when to heal and deal damage in between.

They're lazy or just pretenders. Or how did they finish their jobquests without dps?

In my opinion (almost) every1 doing nothing a whole GCD or a bunch of them are just bad players.

As a CNJ, some of our quests requires us to DPS, this is true, but the BULK of it is to make sure the NPCs stay alive or it's a fail. Try finishing the quest without healing the Great Tree.

Perhaps this is simply my own inexperience, but most other MMOs don't hold the same opinion as this community on healer DPS; maybe they're just stuck in the healbot mindset from some other game? Or maybe they're just too lazy to bother with the current meta. Probably a bit of both plus a smidgen of bad sprinkled about the sample size.

DF dungeons are a bad base line to determine much because you can get away without playing optimally, 8 times out of 10 I assume people are just there to get in and out and do the bare minimum and are probably watching netflix or eating lunch at the same time as doing their roulette.

So I would argue that most of the time you are seeing someone who is bored and just doing their "chores" for the day so they can keep up to date with gear progression.

This would be me for every roulette I go with as Sch. Just let Fairy do most the heals and buff or leech people when needed. If they really need more dps I would contribute but everything in DF is far too easy to require this.

This is the real problem...The Devs gave us a game of "Chores" #thegrindisreal!

Alex normal doesn't require healer dps to clear.

But, yes. I also find this frustrating. It really slows the dungeon to a crawl. Especially when they are just standing there waiting for you to take damage.

Usually I do this when I'm new to the dungeon/trial/whatever and am feeling nervous about possibly getting too distracted dishing out DPS. Since I don't know the mechanics or how hard things hit for the first time I tend to just focus on healing and healing only to get a feel for it all. However if it's a dungeon I've done before I tend to be more willing to DPS when I can.

Other reasons I've done it is because the tank is charging in and pulling literally everything and then suddenly their health is nearly gone faster than I can blink. So even when they're at full health I just focus entirely on healing only out of pure fear that the moment I don't they'll be dead.

Honestly I think there are a lot of dungeons/trials/etc. where a healer really should only be healing but I do understand the need to have them DPS at times as well.

I walk into places blind, so the first run or two, I'm just a healer while paying attention to what is going on learning the place.

After that, the first couple of pulls, I am just a healer. Because this is random people, I need to see how the tank is going to be pulling, how much damage they take, how fast the DPS kills, basically how long I can go without healing. After I get a feel for the group, I may do some damage. If I feel like it.

I'll also not complain in the group, or on these forums, if the tank wants to pull single groups at a time, or multiple, or do full clears, or the minimum required.

Yeah, I hated when all my healers hit level 52, and got yet another damage spell. /sigh

Maybe I'd rather this not turn into another WoW, which is a tunnel run zerg fest, and if it isn't an AOE damage or AOE heal, I may as well remove it from my hot bars.
