I only "just heal" when I am being lazy.

I know I can DPS but I've made a choice that run not to do so. I'm a healer... if you're not dead then I'm doing my job. It should be at the discretion of the healer if they choose to DPS not the rest of the party. ( for example I also do not DPS while healing if i'm feeling sleepy / just woke up. I don't want anyone to die because I get tunnel vision. )

It's roulettes not AS. Also since it is roulettes if things are dieing that slowly without healer DPS then you need to look at the DPS in your party, not your healer. Yes healer DPS can make a huge difference but I know for a fact that mine does not. My DPSing is just my trying to be helpful in moving things along if the DPS are that bad.

Honestly... sometimes after a long day at work and/or raiding, I just want to relax a bit. So I would call it laziness.

Never really seen anyone in game take a principled stand "Healers should not DPS". Some don't feel confident. Some like me might just be tired and zoned out. etc. DPSing doesn't get comms either so there's no extra motivation besides cutting a few minutes off the run.

Yeah I was gonna say, I actually get more commendations if I coddle everyone's health bars vs if I let them dip a bit in order to get off some dps. At least in DF.

If I notice our dps are slow or low geared and I'm pretty confident my tank can go without being babysat, I'll switch over and dps just to pass checks and move things along. At least throw on my dots, cast a quick holy and run away to heal again. On 2nd fractal boss I'll open tubes and take down the add myself just so dps don't need to drop over to it but I'll admit to not being very focused on dps as a healer. I find WHM dps dull so it doesn't even do much to relieve boredom for me. It might make a run a few minutes faster but I've had a few too many close calls where I went to turn off cleric, it didn't seem to work, I hit it again and suddenly it flickers on and off really fast and leaves me stuck in it again. The switch over feels clunky to me as a WHM. Not sure if anyone else is the same.

There are some cases where I get distracted to where I turn on "healing" mode and just keep people's HP up. But I usually end up throwing up Cleric Stance when I'm in the zone.

I main BLM, but play all of the jobs, and quite frequently heal. I actually played healer for Coil 2, when it was the current raid, rather than BLM since I enjoyed healing it. Even when that content was considered difficult I still spent part of my time contributing to dps. That said, I understand certain situations where healers exclusively heal.

If I'm healing, I generally like to contribute as much as possible. So if I'm in Ex Roulette, for example, and on WHM (since it's the only healer lvl 60 I have at the moment), I always start my "rotation" with the tank picking up a mob or two, followed by me popping regen, maybe a cure (if needed), Aero 3, another cure (if needed), then a holy to stun the enemies that can get stunned. Then I go back to healing the tank or start popping DoTs on individual enemies. Eventually I rinse and repeat. If the enemies are going down slowly, and I'm able to, I'll start throwing out Stone 3....all depends on how much damage the tank is taking at any given time.

When I heal I like to be productive 24/7, whether it's healing or dpsing. I just adjust to the needs of the party.

If I'm in a particular run where the tank is squishy, or simply doesn't like to use defensive CDs, then I notice myself in more of a mana drain, so I might only pop at least an aero 3 to get something on the mobs, but will then conserve my MP to make sure I can keep the tank up in case of large hits etc.

In general, though, I am usually able to do a lot of dps even when the party is a bit squishy or the content is more difficult. Like I said before, even when Coil 2 was new, I would still pop some dps in between heals whether I was playing WHM or SCH. It all depends on comfort level, I guess. I'm also not afraid to use benediction (when playing WHM) if we're doing a huge pull of enemies, and I still want to throw out some attacks.

If I'm tanking and barely taking damage, I do get semi annoyed when the healer is standing there doing absolutely nothing for a good 5-10 seconds...I will admit that gets a bit on my nerves, but at the same time, I would never call someone out on it or make a big deal of it. Just more of my mind thinking "why is that healer just standing around doing nothing, and he/she has full mp?"

I always run with my healer during the roulettes because we're always pushing each other to do the best run we can. If he's not dpsing he's not happy. And if I'm not actively maintaining hate he delights in ripping aggro off me.

It's a way to make runs less boring, that's for sure.

Scootie, Exactly how I feel tanking/healing. It's not hard to throw out a dot in the 5-10 seconds you're sitting doing nothing lol.

I'm always hesitant about dealing damage with PuGs, especially the first few minutes. I've noticed that, as soon as I hit cleric stance, an aoe goes out that the tank or a dd decides to eat and is sitting at 10% HP while I'm panicking waiting for the cool down to end.

I would say 1 in every 5 PuGs had competent enough people to allow for 90% DPS upkeep. The other 4 leave me as a nervous wreck.

i am one of the. "i only just heal" crowd. i do not know how many in progress runs i went into and get the response. healers never actually "healed". if i que up for a specific role. i am going to focus on that role regardless on the secondary. it is the DD should not take the tanks job. then i should not take the DD's job either.

if things are dying not as fast as you like. look at the DD's. the tank is only there to keep the enmity in check while healer focuses on health bars. once a healer decided to go 100% damage and never heal just because it is a fast que makes them a bad healer. while damage for some is good. if you forget your main role. then you are not doing your job.

i'll never understand the. the faster things die the less damage overall.
