We should ally with the Garleans

I don't think you realize that you can't "ally" with the Garleans. In their view, it's submit or die. It was very explicitly stated when the city leaders met to discuss the Garlean terms of surrender.

I really hope that we do get to ally with Garlemald in the future. Much like in FFXII when the heroes reached Archades and found that it wasn't nearly as horrific or totalitarian as the players were led to believe.

We've only seen one side of Garlemald - and it'd be a real shame to see such an intriguing part of the setting reduced to a generic evil empire. We need more figures like Gabranth and Drace from FFXII who...actually remain loyal to their homeland (unlike Cid and Lucia) whilst still being likeable and relatable.

Besides, if it wasn't for the Garleans having conquered Ala Mhigo then Eorzea would still be at war with itself. Something to bear in mind.

It may be the only side we're shown, but the official mission statement of the Garlean Empire is genocide; that is to say, mass killings on a group solely based on the conditions of their birth. The who or whys do not matter at that point.
