Right now being a specialist means precisely zero. The skills you learn through it are barely worth the space on your hotbar, and there's almost no incentive to become a specialist in anything if you already have every craft at 50.

For the record, my specialists are Blacksmith, Weaver and Goldsmith. Other than giving myself something to do with those 'soul' items which were thrusted into my inventory by a random NPC, there's pretty much no real point. Adding specialist recipes will at least give some weight to being a specialist, and maybe even help the economy by spreading things out a bit.

There will always be price-gougers, but most of them are able to do so not because of being a specialist, but by having easier access to the rare and difficult materials which price most other crafters out of the markets. That'll happen regardless of specialist recipes.
