I'm not sure I understand. Why can't you select the ship stats in the master log, ctrl-c, go over to the public log, rightclick->paste values only? I don't see how it's more helpful to leave it in the public log, and I really don't want to leave it in the public log if I copy it over because I'm not the only person who copies things over to the master log. If I leave it there, it will almost certainly result in duplicate log entries. Especially since I won't remember what I've copied over and what I haven't, even ignoring that two other people sometimes help me out with that process (thanks, btw, Bonzai and Arctic! It's been really helpful).
EDIT: I really should read all new posts in a thread before commenting instead of replying after the first one <_< The ships are occasionally sorted into alphabetical order by ship (and within a ship, by rank, and if rank is the same, by entry order). I don't do it often because it crashes the sheet for me for a good while. I don't know what happens for other people, but I am mostly unable to access the sheet right afterward, and any changes I do make get reverted weirdly if I do get in during that time. I usually wait until there are a fair number of new log entries before doing it.
There's also ctrl-f.
However, thinking about it, there's an easier solution. I'm going to add a new set of columns to the airship roster for current ship stats. That list is sorted by server, and then by FC, and then by rank (descending), and then by ship name. That keeps an FCs ships all together, and lets you see more easily who else is active with airships on your server so you can arrange material trades if needed. Please use that for this purpose. Also, please please use rightclick->"paste special"->"paste values only" to paste stuff you copy so I don't have to constantly redo the formatting.
Like Arctic said, put it in the public sheet and we'll move it over. This allows us to reformat everything before putting it into the list to keep the dynamic parts of the sheet working (and lets you guys not have to really care about spelling/plurals/capitalization/etc - we'll take care of it). Also, it makes the sheet more troll-resistant. A troll could still delete the roster, which would be annoying, but couldn't delete all of our data or my formulas. It also reduces the impact of people using ctrl-v instead of paste-values-only, because if that was done on the main sheet, I'd have to constantly redo the several dozen conditional formatting entries that colorize the lines based on the color chosen in the roster.
Also, if you see an error on a part of the sheet you cannot edit, or if you want to comment on something you cannot edit (or something you can edit), feel free to use the "Insert Comment" feature of Google Sheets. Rightclick, select "Insert Comment" and put in a comment. It'll send me an email about it, I'll go to the sheet when I have a second, and either fill in/change/correct the data, or reply, and when whatever it is has been resolved, I can click "Resolve" to make it go away.
