No thanks, I don't want to go back to the days of tickling normal quest mobs for an hour because I'm a tank and "tanks don't do damage".
I would also like to add that the DPS obsession has contributed to the community mindset of "Bring the Job, not the player" when comes to Statics determining which Jobs they should bring to Savage Alexander for putting out the maximum DPS numbers. So far, the best Savage raid composition is:
Tanks
* Warrior
* Dark knight
Healers
* White Mage
* Scholar
Damage Dealers
* Dragoon
* Ninja
* Black Mage/Summoner
* Bard/Machinist
Paladins, Monks, and especially Astrologians are now the three least sought after jobs in Alexander Gordias Savage. I got messages from PF Statics ranging from "Sorry, were not interested in bringing a PLD/MNK/AST into our static group." to "LOL! Go reroll!"
In many new startup Statics, nobody wants a Paladin because of they have the lowest DPS of the 3 tanks especially when they're using Shield Oath. Warriors have Maim to offset their 25% overall DPS loss plus they also have have Unchained. A good Warrior MT can quickly squeeze in 3 Fell Cleaves before going back into Defiance. Dark Knights are able the have Darkside up at the same time with Grit.
The Monk's problem are also shared with the Paladin's with the Dark Knight taking their spot. Because the Dark Knight has the 10% Int reducing Delirium which last 20 sec vs 15 sec with the Monk's Dragon Kick, there's no reason to bring a Monk anymore if you have a Dark Knight in your Static. A equally geared Dragoon will generally out DPS a Monk and Mantra can't hold a candle to the Dragoon's raidwide buff Battle Litany and the Ninja has Trick Attack, Goad, Dancing Edge, and two enmity reducing skills.Plus they can do just as good if not better DPS has a Monk.
As for Astrologians... I'm pretty sure u guys have heard all the complaints about them in the forums.
Sorry about the posts being divided up. The forums won't me post over 1000 characters.
I agree that Tanks and Healers should be able to deal dandy damage. I love DPS stances to pieces, sincerely. What I don't love is the cyclical problem of "Give us more DPS." "Okay here it is, but the bosses now have more health." "Okay we need more DPS to kill the tougher bosses." "Okay here's more DPS, but now the tanks and healers have to DPS if you wanna survive."
Hard content shouldn't be hard because you have to do something other than your job. Se should be developing content that is engaging and fun for tanks to tank, and healers to heal. Dealing damage shouldn't be the only factor that makes content fun.
