Maybe I'm overthinking your post, but I actually use Succor every time there is incoming party damage or if I see that hate is spreading and mobs are going everywhere and attacking the dps, to give tank time for pulling them back while I focus on him. No one ever said it was annoying or wrong, and I have ZERO experience at being a Scholar (only got to lv45 SCH on my last character, rip) so I would like some advice and feedback.

This. Succor is also used to mitigate incoming damage. It's not just for healing damage taken, and it's only really worth it for that if you use Emergency Tactics anyway. Scholars rely on shields to keep the party alive too.

I like it when SCH use their shields more personally. Makes everything a lot easier and the healers gel together so much better.
