I remember a time when players helped new players learn the game, learn to be better, didn't need a program to tell you how to play, you figured that out on your own and with help from the community. DPS parsers are fine, but they are not an automatic win. Still shouldn't get tunnel vision, or forget bad players are only bad because other's in the community are not pausing to help out their fellow gamer.

So if stop being shit at the game is a thing, then stop being shit at helping out your fellow players. We are all part of this community don't make this place a crap hole.

However, at the end of the day, the burden is on each individual to improve their own gameplay; they have to actually give a shit first. I can't count how many times I've given basic advice in a neutral tone only to run into "It'll be fine, we didn't wipe" "Uhh I know my main is BiS (spoiler: their main is not BiS)" "I don't tell you how to play!" etc etc. There are a lot of people who play this game who just genuinely don't seem to care that they're playing terribly, and take any sort of advice or criticism the same way they'd take a kick to the balls.

Edit: And let's be real for a minute here, if you're doing your basic rotation correctly but are having trouble optimizing then 99.9% of the people in this game are gonna be chill with you. The people who generally run into "elitists" harshing their buzz are the "but I'm an ice mage" type players who can't even be bothered to read the tooltips, let alone put a few moments of critical thought into how their moves could best work together. Sure, even good players will run into jerks every now and then, but far less frequently. I forget the exact wording of the saying, but something along the lines of: "If you run into an asshole, then he was probably an asshole. If everyone you run into is an asshole, then you probably are." So if it's starting to look like the whole community is filled with assholes, maybe it's time to take a look at yourself and ask what you're really offering to the community, because you're probably not doing much better than all the other assholes.

You could have rose tinted glasses on though, there have always been those who would not only never ask for help, but lose it when advice was given, be it in a a helpful manner or not.

Yeah I ignore those types, but I started in Ragnarok Online, it was decent enough then it filled slowly with asshats.. I'm more in hopes we get enough decent people to help that those who refuse to learn, want to be carried will just get drowned out by our helpfulness. Also no doubt I has the rose tinted glasses I tend to only remember the good things from places :O

first off, using a parser isn't like using a gameshark. it's just measuring your dps. it's not telling me how to play anything. it's just raw data. get a clue.

secondly, there's only so much someone else can do to help someone else out. i can't press the buttons for another person. and if they aren't going to do some research about how to play their job, then why should i do it for them? i'm not going to do your homework for you. it's a classic case of if you can't help yourself, then you shouldn't expect anyone to help you.

even then, most of the time you even try to help someone out or mention how poor their performance is, they get all insecure and the first thing they do is come to the forums and cry about how everyone's bullying them for their dps. it's not like this is the first thread we've seen from terrible players complaining about people who are better than them parsing. it's not the parser's fault that someone might be garbage. it's entirely the terrible player's fault, and only they can remedy their poor performance.
