I'm not sure if it's possible, but the old slower paced leveling that didn't emphasize getting to end game and pushed people to explore and enjoy the game world more for what it is. I feel like the style of game that we have now is exceptionally competitive and group play is less about playing together and more about assembling a team of people to get things we want to get done in a time efficient manner. Call it the musings of someone who got stuck in the transition from Everquest style games to Action MMORPGs, but the older games had their advantages.
The same thing that is "fun" about running easy dungeons over and over for tome gear. Only difference was FFXI actually felt difficult, where FFXIV just throws loot at you nonstop and feels shallow.Errr what was "fun" about farming for 100s of thousands of ancient currencies over months upon months or paying millions upon millions of gil for them? or Having to repeat Neo Nyzul over an over and over for months to get Alexanderite or paying mega millions? Or having to farm Einharjer for months. And hey were just one part. Or, more often than not farming them for the LS leader first, then moving on down. It could takes years before you even saw it.

It is too soon to even think about but it would be fun to have a one on one duel with our Job quest givers (30-50, 50-60, or subsequent levels is anyone's guess) a la Maat.
1.) Blue Mage (FFXI Style)
2.) Diabolos Primal Fight (Why not I know hes a boss)
3.) A real jungle expansion like (Seekers of Adoulin) but less copy and paste.
Actually, you already have to challenge the Job-giver npcs already in the gameAnd keep Maat and his stupid hat in Jeuno where he belongs. I actually cheered when SE stated that raising the level cap in Heavensward would be automatic and not require a convoluted questline like FFXI's stupid Maat quests.(lvl 30 PGL quest you have to fight Harmon, lvl 50 MNK against Wiedgart, lvl 45 PLD against Jenlyns, lvl 60 PLD against Solkzagyl and Cointaint etc etc.)
My Alchemist has been expecting some firework recipes for a very, very long time.
Angelwings...yes please.
More stats would be a great start to making this game require more thought as far as gearing goes... how would you like your WAR wearing something like this? http://ffxiclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/R...Armor_%2B2_Set
Gamers want to be challenged. This includes actually putting some thought into gear choices for specific situations instead of watching a pointless ilvl go up.
But no, we can't have that. Think of the casuals, right? I play this game casually and I still want more meaningful, unique stats in the game. Honestly gearing in this game right now requires about as much thought as counting to potato.
No, the reason there are no special stats in the game has nothing to do with casuals. It has to do with the illusion of choice. Different set of gear for different situations is neither meaningful nor challenging, one segment will run the numbers to determine the optimal gear for a given situation, and then everyone else will follow suit. If you want meaningful stats like, you need a setup like Diablo 3 where one piece of gear will make you change your entire build.
If running Dynamis, Sea, or Sky for the fifth time was difficult, you must have been doing something wrong. The difference is social, you played with the same people (more or less) for months, and you built relationships. The people who say we need larger scale content that can't be done with the DF are correct. The same thing that is "fun" about running easy dungeons over and over for tome gear. Only difference was FFXI actually felt difficult, where FFXIV just throws loot at you nonstop and feels shallow.
On the contrary, I think we should have Maat in the game, if for no other reason than to blockade players who insist on "playing the game their way" from polluting the high level queue pool. You don't want to tank? Maat will kick the crap out of you. You don't want to heal as a healer? Maat will make you wish you were using heals. DD not making damage checks? Maat will take the measurements for your coffin, please.
