I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
Really? cause I'm pretty sure I used the words "Help" and "Support". Not, "killing". Yes, this will help all level ranges of gear and give low to mid level crafters an incentive to, oh, I don't know, craft? Contribute to the market? Then put those items up for profit? I don't know how those things work. It's too blurry and my brain gives out when I think of simple concepts such as these.
I think your comprehension might be a little off now. I didn't say YOU said killing, but from your argument it SOUNDS like you're saying that with Optimal Ranked Equipment we are neglecting the Crafters by making them obsolete. That couldn't ALSO be because NM's drop mid-ranked gear could it? Free gear > crafted gear, hey hey hey.
We'd probably need a survey or data for it regardless. There's lots of other reasons for a dead market, which replacing optimal rank with restricted rank won't fix.
You forget that it's so easy to rank up 1-30 that it'd be ridiculous to even stop to purchase new gear. With this in place, I'd still go naked or wear old low level equipment until I reached a certain check point in my progression.

The two reasons Crafted gear is sparse between 1-30 is because of the XP Curve and Required mats, Not because people wear level 50 stuff at level 1, The few people who do, do so because they already have rank 50 classes and didn't feel like changing to go do something on their level 1 class.

Just wanted to cut through the children bickering with each other and let the devs know that my vote is for rank required gear throughout with some kind of way to make up for having a number of additional sets of gear. A quick and easy method of switching out gear would be nice too.
I had a lot of sets of gear in ffxi, and far less inventory, but there was a lot less drop variety as well. Some kind of system to manage your armor sets would be nice as well as a way to deal with the extra inventory space it would require.
Exactly, that and the amount of gear GOOD OR BAD that is dropped from both Toto-rak and mid leveled NM's. You can't deny that one zoro Mask is pretty good for what it is.The two reasons Crafted gear is sparse between 1-30 is because of the XP Curve and Required mats, Not because people wear level 50 stuff at level 1, The few people who do, do so because they already have rank 50 classes and didn't feel like changing to go do something on their level 1 class.
And that r50 gear at r1 is similar to something we must all do when we stop to change classes to repair something. Eh?
Even with an update to stats, what will the point be? You're right, we've both said it. The curve isn't steep enough like in XI to warrant purchasing and burning through set after set of gear. This change wouldn't be counter productive, but it would be pretty useless.
I think I'm more upset about the finality of this change. It does not say "we thought about this long and hard and did it for Progress!" it says "We have too much to worry about now with all these adjustments, it would be easier just to rank/class lock them instead of do more adjustments."
But no, I don't see this new required rank system fixing anything. An entirely different system, such as recipes, might get new players out of their weathered gear faster but as that has nothing to do with THIS system it shouldn't even be considered.
To make this worth while they would need to adjust the leveling curve which they're doing aren't they? But they're going in the opposite direction? They would need to make it steeper. Otherwise if they keep making it easier to level up this system will become even more pointless.
See it makes sense for gear like JSE or the newer gear as it drops after certain circumstances, but for craft-able gear it's very...Well, it doesn't make much sense really. :/
Sorry guys, it seems there was some miscommunication earlier on this, and it took awhile to clarify the situation. I've updated my original post in the thread and will copy it here for viability. This was speaking specifically to NM and other content-related gear, and not a blanket removal of the Optimal Rank system. I really apologize for the confusion my post caused!
I also added in details about the recipe changes, too (which can be seen in the dev1016 thread).Moving forward, gear that is introduced from notorious monsters and other such content will have requirements placed on them as we will be phasing out the "Optimal Rank" system for that loot. With new recipes being introduced in 1.19, the old recipes will be lost and it will not be possible to make that specific piece of gear anymore going forward. (For example, please see [dev1016] where it shows the change from a Hempen Doublet to a Hempen Doublet Vest)

Now that is a horsebird of a totally different feather, thanks for the update bay.

I wish we could insert gifs, so I could just dump my entire dance collection under a cut. But I'm still suspicious. Does this mean all future raid/looted gear will resemble the Alpine War Jacket in that it has specific requirements? I'm ok with that.Sorry guys, it seems there was some miscommunication earlier on this, and it took awhile to clarify the situation. So I think I might need to go look at this dev post but I'm not entirely understanding what that means.
because it still sounds like all current gear that exists will retain its Optimal Rank status, but all future versions that will be created from a point in time will be made to have a Required rank status. :S
