Crystal Tools, the engine that powered 1.0, was never going to run on the PS3 to begin with. It barely ran on the average PC of the day. That said, the belt slot was a substantial headache for gear design. There were alot of unique belt models forcing designers to make a body piece for every belt, for every body piece. Some leg pieces also had variations depending on the belt, like the White Mage Culottes (on female characters, I hated that soo much). That's alot of game assets for just one gear slot.

Crystal Tools was designed for the PS3. It was later ported the 360 and PC.

While I don't doubt that, I played 1.0 and there was no way a PS3 could have handled that. My gaming laptop, an Asus g53sx could just run it at medium settings. I dare not imagine how they could have even begun that port.

I honestly don't think there was ever a PS3 port planned.

It was planned enough that they had pre order sales during 1.0 for the PS3.
