It was a question. Some of the buffs from those HOs were pretty useful when I played last and we would always try to trigger certain ones.I guess it would be something like that. I don't know if it is a non sarcastic question or not though. If it is implying that FF took skill chains from EQ. That is false, skillchains have been in FF since FF9 and Chrono Trigger. Now if some earlier game had them then I wouldn't know.
If it was a real question then yes, that EQ2 would be like a skill chain.
I think this game beats WoW as far as storytelling goes. And when I say WoW, I mean everything beyond Vanilla. Vanilla was good because everything still made sense, storywise.
However...
At no point in WoW did I actually FEEL like a hero. I was a "champion" in WoW's story, but the real heroes were the renowned NPCs from games past (WC 1, WC 2, WC 3). We got a "Hero Class," but it stopped feeling heroic when people (PvPers, lol) cried nerf and the Death Knight got nerfed to oblivion.
In FF14, I feel like a true hero. Not THE true hero, just A true hero, because I have you tanks and DPS to protect me when the heat gets turned up =3. Still, there's one thing that bothers me, if ever slightly...

At the time we fight Ilberd during Raubahn's rescue, we're technically godslayers, and we're recognized as such. How, then, is Ilberd able to withstand our assault for so long, beat us silly, and make it out alive? He's just a man!
Three Ilm Knights, One Thousand Malm Road
Once again, he didn't say he copied anything from WoW. But yeah, it doesn't matter, if you feel FFXIV copied from WoW, that's cool. There are people who don't agree with you tho. It's a matter of opinion, and I'm not going to argue about that. One of many, http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/06/...-playstation-3
There's also several interviews floating around where he states he has "borrowed" from wow. DF and the kick system is one of them.
The big question I suppose is, Does it matter? If it works, is proven to work, and is successful why shouldn't he copy from other mmo's.

At that moment your light is still sealed. Only were Ysayle join your group you start to unseal the light bit for bit.

Apparently all MMOs in this world are a WoW clone to some people. Just because of WoW's huge success doesn't mean everything is a WoW clone. After all WoW was NOT the first MMORPG nor the only one in existence in the period it launched. WoW also copied some things from older games. There is no parthenogenesis in the videos games. Everything resembles or have similar features to others. And let's be honest we like this. The only thing 1.0 had better was the better quality textures and some effects. All the rest were crap and thus it failed. 2.0 and 3.0 are far better and the best ever storyline I saw in a MMORPG till now. ARR can improve on some things. I personally would like to see better quality textures cause now the game is nice only when you are sitting really far from the screen. If you play on PC the textures are horrible and especially in cutscenes the game looks like a game from 2004 era.
This thread makes no sense.
Every online mmorpg will share common elements.
The game requires things like maps, chat windows, UI information etc.etc.
Lot of people arrange their UI in a manner that maximizes screen real-estate
Story..I won't even get into it, you can't compare the two. If you do, then you haven't played either of the two games enough.
Regardless, if you arrange your UI elements like wow and then suddenly feel like it's too much like WOW, perhaps the fault is yours.
You can move the UI elements anywhere on the screen. You want to put your map right in the darn middle of your screen to feel unique, feel free to do so.
Here, I did it for you, maybe it'll make it feel "less" like WoW.

I mean look at this Screenshot. I bet this game is nothing like WoW based on the screen UI and the UI elements.

I want a mix as well as you can see in my forum name. Pure sandbox leaves fun creation entirely up to the player which can be bad, believe it or not. Pure themepark has a more lustrous shine the first few runs. But eventually that shine dims if the game is played to often. EQ next was aiming for a great blend. But with the company in turmoil, I don't see that turning out well.I have to be honest I think I want a mix. I am not saying there should be no instances because I think they have their place too. I don't want a pure sandbox and as far as I can see the biggest contender to be somewhat along the lines of what I want is Everquest Next, but with SOE becoming Daybreak and all the people being fired etc I don't know how that will end up anymore. I will keep my fingers crossed though, you never know.
I guess I like what FFXIV has done so far and I would like to see it continue that. But I also want to see them get bold and try and bring something new to the table with polish and depth.

I think they refer to the instance and 0-10 hotbar common to 90% of mmos. The thing is most what can be done has been done on pc with hotkey base. You see console mmos changing things up more with the UI due to less buttons on controller. That isn't just copying WoW though, that is copying almost every mmo. This thread makes no sense.

I doubt it is about the hotbar. 1.0 had it also and nobody said WoW UI clone to 1.0I think they refer to the instance and 0-10 hotbar common to 90% of mmos. I think it is the duty list.
