Yes they did even Yoshi said he did. I am glad you think and believe this is a completely original game but I am sorry to tell you it is not.FFXIV has copied nothing from WoW imo. However, it has general similarities with other MMOs that lot of the MMO games share. In this day and age, it's not possible to make completely unique MMO, but sharing similarities with other games doesn't make it clone or copy of any game.
This is a matter of opinion and everyone sees this in their own way, it's useless to try to push your opinion onto others. If you think that FFXIV is a WoW clone, you're free to do so but just accept the fact that other people might disagree with you.
I would very much like to see the source for that, when and where did Yoshi actually say that they copied stuff from WoW? ^^ So far I have only seen people to claim that he said something like that but I have yet to see any reliable source for it.

They have homogenized the jobs to the extreme AND are very strict in terms of the "holy trinity" so sure the game is more balanced than XI, but it has its price as well and it is a very very hefty one.Once again was FF11 balanced well? (no everyone knows this). Is this FF11? (no once again everyone knows this). Is this game within it's system trying to stay true to FF? (I guess you think not but many like my self think that it is). Is an MMO in anyway like a single player game like the none MMO FF titles? (no and should not be). There are your answers mate.

I'm pretty sure he said he equated Realm Reborn to World of WarCraft more than to FFXI as an experience.
Really, copying some things from WoW is fine. Most of what was adopted was the tank/healer/dps trinity that's in most and some UI features. There are actually a couple little quality of life things I think this game could STILL take from WoW like auto dismount when initiating combat etc.
It would be silly for the team to NOT take notes from the most popular MMO of all time. I think FFXIV does a good job trying to dig into what worked with WoW but leaving out what didn't all while maintaining its own identity. I came here from WoW. Aside from being the same genre, and both fantasy, the games are very different.

In Yoshida's opinion, the reason FFXI was a success is that it took the areas where Final Fantasy was strongest—cutscenes, dramatic scenarios, and story-driven content—and input them into an EverQuest inspired framework.
However, when the original FFXIV was in development, the goal of the project was simply to make a game that was different from Final Fantasy XI. Yoshida feels that the creators didn't recognize that the global standard of MMOs had been significantly raised in recent years. He would have suggested a different path for the game—one that mirrored FFXI's own creation. "I think it would've been good if they tried seeing what happened if they turned World of Warcraft into Final Fantasy. So, because they tried only to make something that was 'different from FFXI,' they ended up with not much of anything."
"They should have said, 'Hey you, go play WoW for a year [for inspiration].'"

Yeah, the pro is that everyone can get in on content and not be shunned for inferiority. The con is that everything is vertical progression which in essence is everyone being the same thing at the end. The only difference would be in execution of skills and aesthetics sometimes.
I don't like nerfs and I don't like this notion that everything has to have balance. I would prefer each thing or concept be overpowered in one thing and weak in others. Which makes choice more real and not an illusion.
Saying that they took inspiration from WoW isn't copying tho. But like I said this is a matter of opinion. I don't personally see anything they would have copied from WoW, however I see similarities with other MMOs in general. But if someone feels that they copied from WoW, that's cool too. This is not something I feel need to argue about.

Well no I don't think this game copies WoW at all, at least not to the degree people say. "WoW Clone" tends to get thrown at any game that even remotely follows the "tank/dps/healer" trinity form of gameplay. And has raids. I think Guild Wars 2 is one of the only wide appeal MMO games I saw that wasn't described as a WoW clone at some point.Saying that they took inspiration from WoW isn't copying tho. But like I said this is a matter of opinion. I don't personally see anything they would have copied from WoW, however I see similarities with other MMOs in general. But if someone feels that they copied from WoW, that's cool too. This is not something I feel need to argue about.

Tanaka and Yoshida are entirely different people.
http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Heroic_OpportunitiesA license board is not what I meant. That would be more like the armoury system with the ability to select skills and traits without them being predetermined.
No I meant skill chain system like FFXI, FFXIV 1.0, Chrono Trigger, and FF9.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7Isz6KW0UQ
I mean a system where two or more weapon skills work in synergy or combo resulting in a ball of energy that can be bursted by a magic attack.
You mean that?
No, though it's apparent you've gone a bit too far by creating this topic.
