This is what I've been trying to say. This MMO is a grind, especially with gear. I'm not saying that it's the only thing this MMO is good for (which I hope people don't misunderstand what I said again), just wondering why did they not expect it to be a grind and revisting old content again afterjust weeks since just HW launched? There are enough new areas and more to come. Savage right now is the hardest content and people will definitely need to gear up with parts of Esoterics since not many people(at least from what I know) are hardcore raiders in this game. Even they have to grind gear.
And it is a bit dull for endgame but it seems people that are running savage are at least having fun (maybe not all) =3
Newer players to MMO games will likely draw from their experiences playing FPS games, GTA, Dragon Age, Skyrim, etc.. and they will evaluate a MMO based on that criteria. But other online games (and offline RPGs) are designed to be picked up, played for maybe 5 months and then abandoned for when the next big game comes along. A Veteran MMO gamer knows that the experience of the game is stretched out over years, and if crafted properly, it leaves players with some of the best gaming experiences to be found anywhere. This is the problem most content is solo and you get your group action from a cross-server queueing tool. This is not like older MMOs where servers developed real communities. It's more like MacDonald's Drive-Thru, where you queue up, do your run, then never meet those people again.
Don't forget Chocobo Racing, Triple Triad, Beast Tribes, Sightseeing Log, Savage Coil, Hunting/Fishing/Crafting Logs, and no doubt other things I am forgetting.
My problem is they added the ability to get the Doman upgrade items with Law tomes....yet it costs double the tomes for the upgrade item then it does for the armor/weapon?! The fuck? Law gear is outdated three times over, why is the price so high? Alex Normal(190), Esoterics(200) and Alex Savage(210).....upgraded Law gear is 180. ..................WTF?
Because there's no weekly cap on Law.My problem is they added the ability to get the Doman upgrade items with Law tomes....yet it costs double the tomes for the upgrade item then it does for the armor/weapon?! The fuck? Law gear is outdated three times over, why is the price so high? Alex Normal(190), Esoterics(200) and Alex Savage(210).....upgraded Law gear is 180. ..................WTF?
RetiredBRD Main in HW. BRD Main again in SB
Doesn't matter if there's a cap or not. The cost of an upgrade item for gear that is outdated x3 shouldn't be double the cost of the actual armor. Why even bother making it available with Law tomes? Anyone who is going to upgrade the pieces for whatever reason will just stick with Hunts.
It's pointless to do it this way.
^ One valid point right there. My problem is the added the ability to get the Doman upgrade items with Law tomes....yet it costs double the tomes for the upgrade item then it does for the armor/weapon?1 The fuck? Law gear is outdated three times over, why is the price so high? Alex Normal(190), Esoterics(200) and Alex Savage(210).....upgraded Law gear is 180. ..................WTF?
Also some other points to note...
Did expert roulette about one hour after the daily reset. Before the tank left, he threw out the comment: "450 esoterics done". Obviously not something everyone can achieve, but probably something quite a few can - and that's already one 'nothing to do' kind of scenario.
Upgrading Esoterics gear with items from Alex Savage - er, yeah, sure "do raid if you want raid level gear"... except, y'know, people who opt to gear up with tomes gear probably opt to do that because they have no interest in doing the hardest content in the game for whatever reason. In which case, it can be argued that they don't even need the higher item level, but let's not forget how strongly vertical the progression is in this game, ie. gearing up, up, up and even further up is pretty much 'the only' thing to do once hitting level cap. Taking away the possibility to do that from, let's face it, the larger part of the playerbase - we're at 'nothing to do' again. And in any case, Esoterics gear is (once again, of course) not dyeable without the upgrade, meaning that people not doing Alex Savage are also locked out of this option (ie. glamour) as well - again, borderline 'nothing to do' syndrome once more.
And somehow, something is telling me that by the time anyone's 'properly' geared up with any of this, all of it will be obsolete once again, thanks to some new gear they might introduce. Like, ok, I understand vertical progression, but not having any time whatsoever to at least take a breath and actually enjoy our gear... If there's one giant, plain sign of the fact that 'endgame' became nothing but a gear treadmill, it's this. And I remember quite a few have already been fatigued with the gear treadmill back in ARR, several patches ago.
Of course, I know, multiple jobs, etc, but with how much we're restricted to focus on one job only (weekly lockouts left, right, and center), despite the core system of the game, I think it makes sense to ignore that for the sake of this discussion here.

I started this game a few months ago, and never had to deal with a cap. By the time I hit 50, I could do stuff for soldiery, which didn't have a cap. It was a fair upgrade to the gear I had.
Upon seeing this new grindwall they've added, I just shut it off. I never had to deal with that before, so maybe that's why it was such a turn off. Minimum of three weeks to get the tomes for the weapon? (445 x 2 = 890, and the weapon is over 900). Gearing up in this stuff appears to take literally months. There's a similar wall on crafting. That just sounds extremely not-fun. I don't want to login daily to slowly log progress towards a weapon that'll I'll get after dutifully grinding for three weeks.
Maybe the game was always like this, but it was never the game I played.
