I just did this and its a huge grind. Go at a pace you can handle. I suggest hitting up the market board or having someone in your fc grt you the common set of gear from Ishguard so you can just breeze through the content. A lot of these quest chains are pointless run arounds for earring anf necklaces. SOME of the story is interesting but most is just for the sake of "he let's fight this primal".

The story does actually get interesting in 2.55 which is nice for HW but all the stuff before is mostly filler. At least you only have to do the MSQ once.

The filler quests are a different matter. The dungeons and trials serve a purpose. The filler quests just waste time. However, they are pretty easy to skip.

I understand how it must seem when you're new and have to do all of the filler quests back to back. However, if you play through all of the patch cycles, the filler quests make quite a bit more sense. The devs were trying to give a decent chunk of MSQ each patch but on a 3 month cycle there's not a enough time to code more than 1 or 2 big trials (HM and EX) while also doing 3 dungeons. Unfortunately, that leads to filler quests having to be utilized more. Having subscribed since ARR release, I looked forward to doing the MSQs every 3 months to have a change of pace for a night or 2 and the filler quests weren't nearly as obnoxious when you had to do 5 or 10 for cutscenes, kill the primal of the patch and move along.

I guess its just a quality issue. Some of the filler quests I loved. For example, the Doman children quests with the caravan. Others were terrible like some of the really boring fetch quests that had little actual story.

Anyways, I just got to the part where I have to fight Good King Moggle Mog (finally something interesting?) but it requires a full raid. Awesome. So I sat in queue for 20 minutes and finally got a party, but they voted to abandon the trial after TWO wipes. WHY? Clearly these people queued because they needed it, so why would they give up AFTER FIVE MINUTES? Especially when we get a stacking buff?? Is this normal for this games community? Now I'm sitting in queue again.

I wouldn't have spent $40 on Heavensward if I knew I'd probably never get to see any of it. :\
The review of Heavensward on IGN pretty much lists out why they did that. It is a questionable decision, but one that is required due to their approach to story telling. Without the knowledge of the characters from the pre-heavensward content, stuff would lose its context. I'd advise taking your time with the content, since there are a lot of new players moving through the old stuff. You don't have to be part of the first few waves to get into groups for the Heavensward content. There will still be plenty of people around once you get there.

Well, of course it can, but every single person who buys a video game isn't going to research it first. I would have done the same as you myself, however, I understand that not everyone has the same way of thinking. I do believe SE should have put at least some effort in places such as Amazon to let potential players know. Just something like this line would be enough.

"In order to enjoy the new jobs and areas of the Heavensward content, you need to have already completed the main scenario of ARR" - Easy enough.

There is a note like that on the main promotional site. Do some research yourself. Good grief people.

    Here's the quote.

you need to be playing FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn and have made sufficient progress in the main scenario.
This is what tipped me off. It took only one click to find the full release notes and the name of the actual quest.

There was a massive thread about simplifying the story-line for new players to only contain story critical quests.

FYI, this is the only MMO that is implemented this way. In no other game can you pay money for an expansion and not instantly access at least most of the content you payed for. It isn't surprising at all that a number of people don't understand why it is implemented this way. It's like all the people arguing for the way it currently works have never played another game in their lives.

Did I have to draw a picture to show I meant on Amazon and such sites? I actually took your own quote from a few posts ago. Jesus.

Or perhaps they don't think it needs to follow every MMO's example. The modern MMO has lost their way and forgotten they are an MMORPG, giving up the RPG element to satisfy the entitled new generation who possesses the attention span of a fly and wants everything NOW.
