Reinha when Zilart and cop came out:
    1. I didnt even have one 75 job was still working on that.
    2. Was fun doing dungeons because it was challenge and rewarding.
    3. Storyline was 10/10
    4. Questing in FFXI you where not someones fetchboy as it is in FFXIV.
    5. Where many jobs in FFXI you couldnt have had all of them maxed out was almost impossible and difficult.
    6. Its an MMORPG stuff shouldnt be soloed the point is finding people that are willing to help you. I understand nothing like FFXI where 6 players must do stuff but atleast 2 or 3 people OUTSIDE of duty finder!
    7. I laugh at your silly 5 new skills for each job when FFXI overwhelmed you with skills and jobs im used to a BLM having 40+ spells not 20.

Beleive me I can go on.

Because leveling in FFXI was a massive chore. There was absolutely nothing compelling about staying in one place for hours at a time and killing the same model crab/beetle/dhalmel/colibri over and over again. It speaks volumes that even FFXI doesn't do FFXI-style leveling any more.

I'll agree with this, but keep in mind that most of the expansions only had a fraction of that story available when they first launched. Wings of the Goddess took a full three years to get to its conclusion. Certainly none of them had anywhere near the volume of story that Heavensward had on release.

This is a case of selective memory. I made a new character on FFXI in the month before Heavensward and played through Windurst, RotZ, CoP, ToAU, and WotG's storylines. There were many, many times when you had to go play fetch, usually involving something from the other side of Vana'diel.

So... exactly the same as FFXIV?

"There's nothing to do that requires 2-3 people except for the things that require 2-3 people that I've arbitrarily decided don't count!"

How many of those 40+ spells did you ever use? At 75, how often did you use any of the tier I-III single target or tier I-II aoe nukes? Or any tier IV nukes except ice and thunder? Blind? Bind? Blaze/Ice/Shock Spikes? Tier I ancient magic?

Or, for a more reasonable comparison, since you mentioned new skills, let's see how many spells black mage got going from level 75 to 85, which was the first ten level increase that NA players experienced: Stone V, Water V, Stoneja, Aero V, Aspir II, Waterja, Break. That's seven, and only because it was a caster. Most jobs got a single ability at level 77, and that's it.

You do realize you can still play FFXI if that's what you're looking for in an MMO, right?

So you're saying you like button bloat. Okay. Good thing you aren't in charge of this game.

    1. Whatever
    2. Yeah sitting in one spot pulling the same mob for hours on end, awesome fun.......
    3. Thats purely opinion based, Some was good, some not so good. 3.0, IMO, blows everything away from FFXI.
    4. It was either ridiculous amounts of drops, or insanely rare drops to hand in.
    5. Because many jobs weren't even welcomed in XP parties, you were FOTM job/sub or GTFO. Also XP didn't scale, you were getting the same XP at 70 as you where at 20. XP parties consisted of stacking the FOTM DD job.
    6. But it shouldn't be mandatory either, why many where stuck in Jueno waiting from hours to days, depending on which job they wanted to level trying to get an XP party or people to join. Seeing as you could lose hours of XPiing in seconds, players played it safe
    7. Thunder, most of the "new skills" where unused and/or useless. You pretty much used the same WS/spells for all content. BLM, thunder. Also due to resists and elemental wheel, certain jobs where excluded from certain content.

Your role was pretty much dictated by the majority, SMN? heal due to them having the largest MP pool. RDM? Better keep that refresh up.

Believe me, I also can go on.

FFXIV is borrowing from the philosophy Blizzard adopted with questing, which was to make quests "jobs" that were short and sweet. The characters issuing the jobs weren't really important and the quests were meant to compliment the faster paced combat as well as emphasize the nature of the world the player was in. The issue is that FFXIV is as much about their characters as the world building, so they really need fewer quests and more effort put into those implemented and the characters issuing them. For example, if someone is going to give us a quest, they should look unique, have good dialog, well composed cutscenes, and maybe a voice acted part or two so we get a feel for them. Haucherfant was a good example of a character that wasn't all that impressive at the start of 2.0, but they made him so much more by giving him a voice and putting him in a well crafted quest chain.

A lot of the current quests are okay as local jobs, but they aren't really "quests" as much as doing some shmoes laundry. Personally, I think they should take a page from the Witcher 3 and have all the quests start at a job board at each settlement, then have the player go talk to the npc involved. At the very least then it feels like what it should be. Heck, they should be doing this with the existing battlecraft leves so they don't seem like they are job posting popping out of the nether.
