He's actually right in some ways. while what he says is not so much a "Reference" as it is a reusing of an asset from an earlier game (FFXIV does this a lot, most enemies in XIV come from some other FF title, which I'm not complaining its nice.). Its clearly homage/reference to both!

The more I play, the more I see how much Azys Lla is a reference to FF1's flying fortress. It has references to many FF floating islands, of course, but the FF1 references are coolest to me.

Both technologically-based flying fortresses from ancient civilizations? check.
Both have Tiamat? Check.
Both have Warmech type enemies? Check.
Both the only place in the game to get Adamantite? Check!
