What I mean is that if the catchup items are that high so that you do get a lot of skill, then your success chances would be abysmally low. However, now that I think about it I guess that would be okay because they'd be cheap items anyway. So I probably should have thought that through better, lol.

I consider a success rate of 30% to be totally acceptable. That's the chance of desynthing an item that is 20 rlvls higher than your dSkill if you have Careful Desynthesis +6 (via Tinker's Bacon). An item that much higher than your skill will give ~0.8 dSkill on a success. You can get 5 dSkill levels with, on average, 5/(0.8*0.3) = ~20 attempts. That's not very many attempts. For the next 5, it's 5/(0.7*0.375) = ~19 attempts. Then, 5/(0.6*0.45) = ~18.5 attempts. Then, 5/(0.5*0.55) = ~18 attempts. Then, 5/(0.4*0.65) = 19 attempts. And lastly, 5/(0.3*0.75) = 22 attempts. So, you can get from dSkill 80 to dSkill 110 by attempting to desynth just ~117 items. If they are vendor-purchasable, that's really nothing at all. Back when FC3s were really valuable, I would desynth that many in half an hour. Heck, you might even be able to get that many done in a single Tinker's Calm (10 minutes) if your inventory starts pretty clear. Note: without Tinker's Bacon, it would take 137 attempts instead of 117. To determine if Tinker's Bacon is worth it, consider how much 20 more attempts would cost. Is it more or less than Tinker's Bacon?

No other part of FFXIV is faster than catching up desynth, imo. The later levels get hard, but the built-in catch-up mechanisms are there and seem to me to be working great.

But, again, that's assuming there will be some vanity item that's rlvl 100 and purchasable. I guess we'll see in a few days!
