I agree; if it wasn't gated like this, that would do nothing to support the longevity of PVP as so many players would just dip their toes in the content to get that cool-looking weapon or coat they want to glamour, or gear up for PVE content that their current gear can't quite cut it for (putting the burden on their PVP teams instead), and then after doing their 10-15 matches to get that item they want, never coming back. What you'd end up seeing is PVP-based rewards going to all the wrong people.
I hope the i100/110 gear stays restricted; the i90 gear will still have the morale boost even if future content is something like i100 or i110 synched. If it hadn't been gated, just imagine what Mor Dhone would have looked like when the i110 stuff came out... lots of people who are never going to queue for PVP again afk'ing in the gear we worked hard for, for doing a handful of matches where they might have barely contributed.
I know of plenty of people who showed an appreciation of & desire for some of that gear (like my Crit/Det Ninja blades)... but for most of those items I can count on one hand the number of people I've randomly happened across on my server who had those things. Some people chose to put more of their time & energy into upgrading relic weapons, some into Coil, and some into PVP... they got what they were after, and so did I. I don't expect to buy FCOB gear with Poetics the day Alexander is released or have Rowena give me Zeta weapons to glamour over my Ironworks Poetic Princess weapons, so I don't think the reverse should be enabled either.
Just today, someone in my FC ran two Slaughter matches that popped as 24 mans as a Twin Adder, where the same Immortal Flames full premade stood at their OP or somewhere and hung out... they didn't go to mid and didn't get any points. They showed up in Frontlines to get some of the rewards (light farming and wolfmarks I suppose) without putting in the effort basically. Hell no I don't want that type of player to have the things I work so hard for, not now and not after HW is released.
I do realize the suggestion that prompted the reply I quoted had to do more with the ability to participate in Wolves Den at certain item levels rather than the PVE-based reasons a lot of people want the restriction on the current i100/i110 gear lifted come HW, but with HW around the corner I had to speak my mind about why I want it to stay as-is.
