For those interested.Absolutely. I'd picked the examples I did because some, like the above, can be a little less intuitive to English speakers, but good info all the same!
For my own purposes, the naming convention window has come and gone. I got tired of waiting, and made/named my character which will become an Au Ra, and I'm certainly not paying more money to correct it at this point. What I'd really like is the more in depth look into the culture of the two variants to at least inform that decision come next Friday.

He's called Redbeak because he has blood on his hands, or in the sense that his name means Raven/Crow(some sources say Karasu means raven), having a "redbeak" implies he has "blood on his beak" if you will.I disagree with this theory. While my knowledge of the Japanese language is crappy (re: I know only what I've gleaned from anime), none of the NIN job characters fit into this. Oboro translates to "dim," and while this might be ninja-themed ("Dim Moonrise," making it easier to be sneaky) the names don't really have anything to do with each other. Tsubame translates to "swallow," as in the bird (Karasu even taunts her with this, "Look, swallow, I know you love me."). Karasu similarly translates to "crow," which has nothing to do with his supposed surname (crows don't have red beaks).
Well, the problem isn't that we don't have them yet, the problem is that they keep saying soon™. People can accept the disappointment of not having them before EA / launch, or the hardship of having to figure them out ourselves based on RNG. If they'd just say that instead of stringing us along and then saying soon™, I'm sure people would be a lot less irritated.
I know why he's called that, but the point was that "Karasu" and "Redbeak" are two names that don't really have anything to do with one another. The argument was that Doman surnames are "simplified" versions of their given names, and "Karasu" (crow) and "Redbeak" are completely unrelated.

Except it does, because crows have beaks, and he earned the Red part by murdering his own clan.Karasu similarly translates to "crow," which has nothing to do with his supposed surname (crows don't have red beaks).
That is all I'm saying, that his last name does relate to his first name. It wouldn't have the beak part if his name was Slug.
Clarification: "Redbeak" does related to "Karasu" (crow), but as far as the meanings go they're unrelated. "Redbeak" is more along the lines of a title than a proper name, which is true for every Doman with a surname thus far... because they're ninja and are using pseudonyms, or because they're all unimportant to the story except Yugiri (whose supposed surname does relate to her given name, if in a limited fashion).
Whatever. The semantics of current in-game Doman names are not the point!

Do you hear the people sing? Singing the song of angry men! It is the anthem of a people who want naming conventions!
It's kind of funny. Other games would get this stuff out of the way early to hype people up, then have the release date delayed. Here it's the other way around.
