Absolutely. I'd picked the examples I did because some, like the above, can be a little less intuitive to English speakers, but good info all the same!
For my own purposes, the naming convention window has come and gone. I got tired of waiting, and made/named my character which will become an Au Ra, and I'm certainly not paying more money to correct it at this point. What I'd really like is the more in depth look into the culture of the two variants to at least inform that decision come next Friday.
Well to be frank we don't know the last names of 99% of the characters. For example Minfila, Yda, Papalymo, Thancred? Are they all ninjas?
That naming scheme is used by multiple non-doman NPCs throughout the main scenario/side quests. I don't think it has anything to do with them being ninjas and more with that's how they name every NPC in battle quests.
Only thing I'll add to this (since I'm newer to the game than most if not all y'all and generally more of a lore lurker than contributer) is that Karasu's attire is red. I would assume that, combined with the translation of his first name, to be where "Redbeak" came from.
I agree. Many Job npcs's have a similar naming convention of racial 1st name + moniker
There's
Estinien Wyrmblood
Jenlyns Straightblade
etc
Just wanted to chime in with really really would like this convention before early access so we can work on names instead of having to make a temporary name and then change it after we sort out the naming convention ourselves.
This and the Au Ra physiology thread may as well be stickies at this point. They're always at the top of the board.
They are always at the top of the board and I would bet that they also probably have the most traffic of any thread on these forums. This is where the interest of the playerbase is... we want these conventions. They've been finished. We're starving for lore and tidbits, and each day checking these threads to see if anything new has cropped up.
Very disappointed in the wait for naming conventions.
