    I've never really agreed with SE's reasoning behind this. It often has the complete opposite effect, I've seen some newbs spamming fire III over and over, its naming convention giving the impression it is outright better than fire I. If they had the -ra, -ga suffices, it would give the impression they are completely differently spells, for completely different scenarios (exactly what they are), and newbs would have no reason to think -ga was better than fire I; just a different spell

    I can relate with that. First time I saw the names of those spells I assumed that Fire II and Fire III was simply stronger versions of Fire at a higher level, but it wasn't until I got to those levels as a BLM that I found out it was simply different spells with their own effects instead of a stronger form of the first spell.
