    Relic weapons with additional effects? *rant*

    How do you feel about the idea of relic weapons getting additional effect? Such as giving the white mage relic weapon a 20% chance when using holy to also do aoe healing for the dmg done, or bard a 20% chance to fire off a 2nd shot of the same skill side by side. So two heavy shots at ones. This is just "basic" ideas, but it would make the relic weapons feel more unique.

    As it stands relic weapons are not very special... In fact i gave up my relic at Novus. In fact the dreadwyrm & ironwork are pretty much as good as zetas. What is just depressing. After all we are talking about a weapon that we put our heart and souls into and its just meh... I could just use a ironwork 130 bow what "pretty" much is as strong as a zeta bow (Yes the Zeta is still stronger but not by much). I really think they should add some type of effect onto these weapons feel more GODLY! Not only that it would make the relic weapone unique!

    Here is a comparison back in EQ2 when I got my Mythical Dream Scorcher I felt godly! That I truly got a weapon that had MEANING. The effects on the weapon were amazing at the time!

    Effects
    When Equipped: When target casts a beneficial spell this spell has a 12% chance to cast Tribal Spirit on group. Lasts for 12.0 seconds. Improves the value of healing and ward spells by 8%.
    Reduces all magical damage done to group by 5%. This spell will absorb a total of 1 attack.
    This spell can not be modified except by direct means.
    Applies Nightmares when Activated. Lasts for 24.0 seconds. Inflicts 714 - 869 disease damage on target encounter
    Inflicts 698 - 853 disease damage on target encounter every 4 seconds
    Heals group members (AE) for 539 - 656
    Heals group members (AE) for 523 - 640 every 4 seconds
    When Equipped: Adds additional healing to Ancient Shroud and Carrion Warding

    I dont think FFxiv relic weapons should have effects THAT powerful. But it would be nice to see something be sides the flavor text. But anyways that just my opinion and would be nice to see relic weapons becoming more special, unique and meaningful.

    would be nice i highly doubt it would happen though they dont seem that interested in doing anything with relic anymore think it was mostly a time sink

    That's not the reason why this wouldn't happen.

    They've said it ages ago, they don't want to over complicate the game for the audience they're trying to attract. I believe that's also why BLMs skill aren't named all fancy and, instead.. just got called Fire, Fire II, etc.

    You can make weapon effects very simple & clean to undestand with out making it complicated. So in truth they still could do it. =\

    And they allowed you to keep it relevant while upgrading gear because you could do a quest after the content was no longer top-tier that let you remove the beneficial effects from the weapon and turned them into skills you could cast to buff yourself. It was a good system and they really made you feel accomplished.

    Note though that to get those effects you had to complete a long questline and then a couple of different raid events (that were top-tier raids at the time). It wasn't easy. There were two versions of the weapon though. There was the base one that was attained by doing solo and group content, then the Epic version that gave those buffs Azmura is talking about.

    I would prefer additional visual effects that we can choose from. The Relic stat-wise should not be too special when compared to the raiding drop weapon. They target different types of players so you never want the Relic to have better appeal to raider than raid drops, meaning useful special effects should not be specifically limited to the Relic.

    Sort of. Yes, it was partly done to help prevent confusion, but the primary reason the localization team for the NA client decided to use roman numerals for spells is for the sake of consistency and clarity. In the JP client the spells still have the -ra, -ga, -aga naming convention, but so do other items such as materia (Materia, Materira, Materida, Materiga, etc.). The problem is there was no consistency between everything that used that naming convention (the -ga spells corresponded to a different rank than the -ga materia, for example) which could easily lead to confusion, so they simply gave everything a roman numeral instead.

    I do miss my -ga spells, but given how it was before I can understand why they changed it. I'm also glad they changed everything so it's consistent across the board, instead of only changing bits and pieces.
