Not sure I agree that people like boring stats, but there seems to be a fair amount of support for the existing stats just because it's what we already have. I think it's more because some people don't want change as much as they claim.
I've always advocated more interesting stats on gear for as long as ARR has been going. Going back, even 1.0 had unique and interesting stats on their relic weapons. Gae Bolg, for example, had bonus damage to Jump skills. Why they removed it seems a mystery to me, and I don't buy the whole 'we're too stupid to understand complex stats' argument. I think they removed it simply because it was easier for them to make.
