Pardon me if I don't find these responses pretty good ones. Elim's bit about having to step out and take care of a dependent is certainly legit, but then how difficult is it to just... Log back in?

Personally I'm mostly concerned about the early access period. Why am I concerned? Because I was here at launch. And I've been at launch for many major MMOs. And I've been at expansion launch for many popular MMOs.

Horribly congested servers are a very normal thing for highly publicized content releases and regardless of their adjustments to login servers it will likely be an issue again, exacerbated by people deciding to just stay logged in.

And yes, Balmung often has queues. Most often they're short (sub one minute) but there's been a couple of times on peak days (Friday/Saturday evening) where it's not uncommon to see that queue number sit there for a few minutes. And this is at a time where people have been complaining about people leaving the game to wait for Heavensward.

So... I think "being able to access the thing someone paid for" trumps "I didn't wanna log back in."

I suppose we'll see though. Being stuck an hour or more in a queue is not something I look forward to (but even if that does happen, I will not be idling in-game; that'd be pretty hypocritical of me wouldn't it?).

To each his own, but if it's something ridiculous like 15 minutes, I'm foresee the return of autowall running and I really don't blame people for doing it. I'd prefer not to see it again, but if they do bring it back I hope it's 1 hour at the minimum.

Agreed, 15 is a bit much. I think half an hour of sitting there with no input is a bit more reasonable. If you're gone for half an hour it's likely you're not coming back for a little bit longer as well.

I only support this if it has a reasonable time frame before logging you out. I would say give it two hours, then log the person out. Any less than that might cause problems. I'm never afk for more than 30 min at the max, but I know some people will go afk while they're waiting on the DF, and will either watch tv or something only to return the second the DF pops. This is particularly the case for DPS players who try to find a group in the off hours. I've seen the wait get to be up to an hour and a half before finding a group. A lot of people will abandon it if it gets that long, but if it's a run you actually need for whatever reason, you're going to wait......

EDIT: Another solution though is to simply disable the Auto-Logout if the person is in a DF of some sort. In that case, I'd say have the log out be on a 45 minute timer or something like that. Enough to log people out if they're truly afk, but not enough to kick people who simply had to do something real quick.....

    It's really needed.

Seeing player's standing in one spot and not moving for days or even WEEKS on a server with a character creation restriction is really one of my pet peeves.

The only place where AFK/idle for a while bothers me is out in the field. (seeing a miner just idle out near their last node or people just generally standing idle out in the open because I'm not sure if they're benefiting from anything)

In towns with Aetherites I see a reason...the idle bonus for exp (which is what I do), I make sure I'm in a sanctuary before idling. I rarely idle outside of towns (if I do I'm usually doing DoL stuff).

My friend recruitment codes (I put it here because in the thread it just gets out dated quickly by new posts):
    My code(1): HVTRTX6P (Unused)
My code(2): RAJHW2J3 (Unused, but could be invalid at this point)

2 hours is a really long time for people who might be stuck in queue on a highly populated server. (As I said before, the expansion isn't even out yet and during the weekdays my server doesn't seem as active as it usually is and every once in a while while logging in I'll be put in queue behind 10-50 other people.) The original AFK-kicker was I think 20-30 minutes, which seemed like a pretty fair amount of time.

For those waiting in the Duty Finder, normally I could see this being an issue with the DPS. But because we are getting new classes (and the most popular being the tank and healer jobs) as well as a level cap increase (so lots of every class running around between 50-60), I highly doubt there is going to be much issue trying to find people for queues. In fact, when we normally get an patch and we only get 3 new dungeons, the queues are easily less than 10 minutes for a DPS. And I don't think many DPS trying to get from 50-60 are just going to sit around and twiddle their thumbs when we have quests, FATEs, leves, hunts, ect to do while in queue.

I think OP is suggesting that this is not permanent. That this is for the first few weeks/month of the expansion, when there is going to be a congestion of old and new players. Which is a fairly reasonable suggestion, imo.

I can see this being a fair compromise, I think this is a lovely idea.

I don't think having to move your character once within 30 minutes is really too much to ask at all.

Also, I'm pretty sure queue times are not going to be an issue (as long as they are now) during the period we'd actually need this.

Just as an FYI... You still get the rest bonus to XP when you're logged out as long as you logged out in a sanctuary. So again, no need to be logged in and idling.
