I'm quoting you, not because I want to say that HW is going to be plagued with all those things you've mentioned, but to say that I agree with you with all my heart. <3Many people for auto-logout are assuming there will be hour-long waits to get into the game, and etc. I personally don't think there will be. Just because it happened at 2.0 doesn't mean it'll happen for 3.0 esp since we've had upgrades. I could be completely wrong, of course; we'll have to see. We wont know who's right till it happens!
Anyone who plans to quote me saying every MMO expansion is plagued with login troubles, or whatnot, please don't. I've played MMOs where expansions weren't disastrous and there were no auto logouts at the time. The worst part of expansions that I've seen is exploits and/or bugs. Knowing SE the expansion will be swiftly followed by emergency maintenance(s) so if those problems do crop up they probably wont last long.

If they do, I hope it isn't 20 minutes. That was ridiculous. 2 hours maybe... Honestly, I hope they don't have to do this. Also I don't afk anywhere but by my house & FC house. Lavender Beds can handle our AFKs.
I'll just hold the camera control stick down with tape when I'm AFK.
/shrug
They should take a wait-and-see attitude in regards to reinstating the auto log-out feature. It may not be necessary.
There we're ways of defeating the auto log-out feature when it was in effect. The easiest way was to hide the UI. Another way was to engage any NPC in conversation.

Wow, this community never cease to amaze me...
Each time a QoL change is mentionned, all we can see is "bypass, bypass, bypass".
"The roulette didn't give me the dungeon I want ? I can bypass this by withdrawing"
"There's a penalty for leaving a dungeon 1st ? I can bypass this by withdrawing before the circle disappears"
"There's an ilvl requirement ? I can just use high level accessories that provide no bonus to my job, enter, then switch to lesser accessories"
"An auto-log out might come back ? I can bypass this by holding the stick with tape" You really put that much thoughts ?!
It's a wonder that SE didn't boot people wether they're doing anything or not, just to remind them that rules are made to be followed.
But it will be fun when all those people won't be able to enter Ishgard to unlock the new jobs because everybody with just sit idle in the city. Ishgard...will...be...crowded...to...death.

i really hope they do, it was beyond depressing when you couldnt get in or got in and eventually got booted from a disconnect and then had to queue for ages all over again. if you cant get in, you shouldnt be made to pay
The reason people were AFKing so much at 2.0 launch is because it was stupidly difficult to get in to start with. If the queue exceeded some absurdly tiny amount, it kicked you out of the queue back to the title screen. This meant that you had to actively mash Numpad0 in order to actually get in, making the 1017 error its own boss. They've since implemented a proper queue so that you never have to sit there mashing 0, even when the queue is 1,000+ people.
Seriously, guys, I fully expect 3.0 launch to go much better than 2.0 launch (though perfection is too much to expect, of course).

From the patch notes:
Seems SE is preempting this one. I, for one, am relieved.[2.0] To reduce server congestion after the release of patch 3.0, players who are inactive for thirty minutes will be logged out automatically.
* We will continue to monitor server activity and remove this feature when server congestion is determined to no longer be an issue.
Indeed. I am relieved as well.
I mean 30 minutes of you doing nothing? Smite Hammer incoming!!!!
