I dunno if 7' tall is anywhere near the Japanese ideal. It's more like what happens whenever they design the girls to appeal to a demographic largely made of straight men >_>This is what happens when you're designed by people whose countrywomen really ARE closer to the Au Ra and Miqo'te height scale than the hyur and other races.
When the Au Ra were announced, I even noticed that both genders are the "Japanese ideal" so much it was almost funny.
The ideal for men is tall, lanky, and stern.
The ideal for women is short and "cute."
The actual height ranges are actually closer to a "middle point" of about 5' 5" and a PRECISE maximum of 6' 1" (not a joke either, that's my height and it was the exact limit everything was designed for. I never hit my head on doors but my just-slightly-taller friends and dormmates did constantly. If i were any taller, finding a bed would have been impossible.) but the idea is the same.
In fact most of the races are designed around certain Japanese aesthetic ideals and archetypes. Just the heights are mostly exaggerated.
I'm short woman inrl and tbh I think the height is fine I think a very tall female aura would look very odd indeed, it's why I don't play elezen they are too freakishly tall.
Why limiting it to Au Ra and Miqo'te? Is nobody here who want Lalafell as high as a midlander?
Every race have their own high range (because they are different races). If it is more important than the appereance of the race for you, choose a race that is in the high range you want.

I am more worried about being able to customize the horns of the Au Ra rather than the height...
No offense OP, but height differences are part of what makes each race unique. Your argument is no different than me saying "I like the cute look of Lalafell, but I want it to be more my height. I should be able to make a 5'9" Lalafell."
So I sternly disagree with you. You have to choose between looks and height. If height is more important, play Roe, Hyur, or Elezen. If looks are more important, stay Miqo'te.
Isn't there an issue with a lot of people not being able to even fit underneath doorframes and they're like 180 cm in Japan, certainly enough to warrant a few jokes online at least.
You sure? I'm not really sure how the various races all resemble certain Japanese aesthetic ideals and archetypes, so I wouldn't mind if you went more in depth.
Understandable, but the OP, and myself, are tall and I'd love a super tall girl Au Ra, we don't have that option though.
Lalafell are meant to be small though (And it's debatable with the Auri girls, but still you can get the men super tall, why not the girls as well?). It's not like height isn't also pretty key in the races appearance. What if they like scaled folks and also like kind of tall races? It's not like they're asking all races to go from 1" to 10', just that the men and women of each race can get as tall or short as each other (funnily enough, like the Lalafell).
I'm pretty worried about both, mind extending a bit of sympathies?
There's tall girls though who might want to look like cat girls or scaled gals, height and looks (As they kind of are apart of the same thing) don't have to be competing factors. It is different because Lalafell are made to be small folks. The Miqo'te and Au Ra on the other hand literally have a 1 inch height difference, so it's not really a good argument to say that the height differences make them unique.

Thing is, Tall race's are not as popular as you may think, I think with this route they have gone safe and given you both option though it be gender locked but I'm not sure if you have noticed but Big and Tall races are not so popular in the game at the moment as it is, also if they were made as tall as the males I know it would put me off playing it personally :/

Lots of things in this game aren't popular. Long grinding questlines to get powerful glowy weapons, dealing with duty finder to get poetics, doing actually challenging content (Looking at you Steps of Faith til you were dumbed down), honestly I'm not sure if T13 is all that popular, yet SE has them (And will probably continue to make them). It's not that we're asking for them to be 1:1, but just give Auri girls the option to be as tall as the men are (And also allow the men to be as short as the girls are), maybe made the "Generic Xaela" tall and the "Generic Raen" tall and short respectively and just have the height options going from the miniscule 4'8 to a solid 7'3 would be fine, it might look awkward, but I'm sure with some model tweaks as the heights go up and down they could fix it (I mean or ignore it model tweaks, it's not like girl Roegadyn look bad scaling an entire foot in height).
Something I've been thinking about, SE probably knew how popular men highlanders and Roegadyn were from 1.0, so why even bother making the girls for those races, I doubt their popularity has changed that much. It's a matter or what SE ought to do to make the game appeal to a wider audience, as trimming the fat models in business aren't really that smart, least you end up with a TERA and their Elin issue.
Of course i sympathize, i'm all for more character customization, but this "issue" is so so so SO small compared to other things. Like they told us the horns would be completely customizable among other things. I mean a couple inches?, CM?. Come on this is hardly worth the devs attention D:
