Q: "What is a summoner?"
A: The same thing it's always been, but with a few new abilities.
Glad we could clear that up for you.
Indeed, a rig good enough to compensate for your overwhelming sense of individualistic entitlement.

So a summoner is not actually a summoner?
Oh okay, I thought so.
Without your salty sarcasm, people are upset about this.
There's no reason for you to be rude. If I wanna summon more Egi's
because that's what I believed summoners do, why is it a shock that people are surprised we don't get any?
We got neat changes but still...

Hey your and individual too, you automatically assume because iam pro summoner not being a crap class that i want to summon Bahamaut and run around the city with him. I simply want the class to be fun and get some new egis and not stare at the same lame pets for another 2 years.

Exactly, summoners that dont summon anything but the same 3 pets over and over for years, i can deal with no getting primals to summon but no new egis is just dumb.

We hate them in their current form if being being a stupid looking egi that sits there and has no interaction with summoners

dot casters with pets have been around since before WoW, DAoC came out in 2001 and had 3 of them (Cabalist, Mentalist and Bonedancer). Just because WoW has been out long enough to have basically copied parts of every MMO before it, and in some cases after it, doesn't mean everything is copied from it, some aspects of MMORPGs are just common throughout the whole genre.
