    1) You have to have finished the MSQ all the way through 2.55, yes. How much further past that, we don't know, but probably not much more than a "breadcrumb" quest leading into Ishgard.
    2) They have said that it will have support aspects, yes.

There are about 80 quests after Praetorium, give or take? It may seem daunting, but it's not really. Each patch probably takes about a night or so of playing, if you just want to do the story and not the side content (and have decent luck with Duty Finder). Really the only hurdle you have ahead of you is getting decent gear to unlock the trials with. . .

It was meant to be done gradually in spurts over 5 extra patches, over the course of a year and a half, rather than all at once, which is probably why it seems so daunting.

Note we have no idea if its a DPS/Support like Bard is. Probably won't until June.

Most of the storyline after Prae can be done on your own, and currently most of the trials are very easy since you'll have people with you who are overgeared for them. I assume there will be "Normal" versions of atleast the Primal trials added alongside Heavensward (since currently only the first three have such, the rest are "Hard" and "Extreme" only). Chrysalis might be your first actual hurdle once you get to it.

    Well, there was that interview:

How does the Machinist class work?

It’s going to be a ranged DPS. This class has different gadgets that strengthen or help itself or the party members. The first kind are the attachments, you can use these to raise your DPS to make yourself stronger. We also have turret type weapons that you can set up to buff your allies or debuff your enemies. This class is kind of like a ranged DPS meets buffer/debuffer.

That sounds more like support than even BRD is.
Still have to see in practice.

So far it seems that the ranged jobs fill in that support role in FF. Probably because their mobility. They can still attack and move, unlike casters.

There's also the description of Astrologian.

And for the Astrologian? What makes this class different from say the White Mage?

This class has the capability to drastically change your current stance. This class has the ability to draw cards and depending on what card you get you can buff your allies or support your party members. It’s a very different mechanic compared to the Scholar or White Mage.
Not sure about DRK, but support seems to be a theme with the new jobs.
SCH has somewhat of a support role as well, so ranged and healers seem to have fit support well.
