Yule and Gria and Garif would be nice, but they'd never happen. Au'ra is kinda like Gria anywyas though.

I had a strong feeling we'd get a Gria-like race not long before the Au Ra were revealed. The Ronso would be great! I 'm upset I forgot about them. And considering Viera were already seriously considered (there's even sketches of the males out there) they may yet still come to be.
While neither would appeal to me, we could use another burly/miniscule race.
I'd rather have a new race, much like how the Au Ra weren't shamelessly cribbed from another game. It makes me sad that so many people just want the Viera or something else old.
I really hope it's not Viera...
FFXIV needs a real beast race and something unique, but at the same time, I doubt SE would add something too deformed from the character models we have... It would just be too much work for every gear-piece. Something like Yuke doesn't really work either IMO.
Aegyl is pretty cool with those big wings, but I still would like some type of beast race.
If done right, I think Burmecian would be awesome. Not another huge bulky race.
EDIT: But that being said, I would also like to see something else outside of other FF games maybe.
There are numerous MMOs without beastly characters, one to note as this is FF, is FFXI, which the 5 current races actually originated from.
They shouldn't, and most likely won't take any more races from previous games. While the Gnole type design would be nice, I'd personally prefer it to be an enemy. What I want to see in new races is just something unique to FFXIV, not something overused like werewolves, or done before like the Ivalice races. Though, if they WERE to add things from previous games as playable character, I would have to choose the main FFXI Beastmen: Orcs, Yagudos and Quadavs.

Forget Viera. Forget Bangaa. I think they ought to take their April Fools, run with it, and implement Viangaa.
You know you want it too.![]()
Moogles duh, so i can achieve my inner Mog from FFVI!
Realistically speaking, Burmecian would be cool though if they can come up with more races unique to XIV i'm all for it.
The thing is while many claim they want more bestial races, historically across the majority of mmo's they are the least used/ chosen race. What a hundred want, matters little in the face of what a thousands prefer. One need only look at the portraits of those asking for more beastly races to see they more often than not chose a distinctly normalized/ popular option. If those that call for it obviously prefer the opposite, why would the developers waste time and resources to it in the first place? As for something more unique? As I recall Ps3 is still viable in 3.0, realistically pushing the processing power of the system with the addition of a new Naga/ Quadraped/ ethereal smoke person race, on top of animations, armor fits, lore, ect... seems like a stretch.
Just because people don't play those races as much doesn't mean people don't like the variety. And of course people are going to choose a "normalized/popular" option on FFXIV many times even if they want a bestial race.
I for one always tend to go elf or human in the absence of a bestial race or "different" race that appeals to me, but I have played bestial races in previous MMOs that I've played. I played Charr in GW2 for example. Sure, I could play Roegadayn, but it doesn't appeal to me and still isn't even a little bestial. So expecting people who play bestial races to always go with Roegadyn or another unpopular but very much humanoid race is a bit silly in my opinion.
I would hardly call spending resources to enrich the diversity, world, and atmosphere of the game a waste of time and resources either. Even if few people play bestial races, I'd like to think most people appreciate the diversity they bring to a game's world, which is a nice, healthy thing to appeal to gamers overall.
Just have their normal movement animations all be hovering an ilm or two off the ground in non-flight enabled zones. They can still "fly" without it breaking the current design.
I too, would love to see a winged race.
