Poll/Discussion: Which playable race would you want in Final Fantasy XIV after Au Ra?

Something without tail but with wings would be nice, but it would be hard lorewise to explain why they would be able to fly only in Heavensward areas.

They could make the air of the Heavensward areas flow with aether, thus allowing mounts (Kirin) that can walk on air by walking on aether, and winged creatures and races that are too large (compared to wingspan) to fly on air, could have wings that create lift with aether, but when there isn't a high concentration of aether, such creatures/people are landlocked?

Lets see, Viera are in the lead (as expected) followed by Something Else? Then in joint third is Crossbreeds (didn't they get second place in the official poll?), Gria (now there's a surprise for me, I thought Au Ra would fill their niche) and Burmecian/Cleyran. Aegyl is surprisingly high up as I haven't seen them mentioned a lot in race discussions. But we don't even have a hundred votes yet so a lot can change (if you want to vote, maybe I should mention that it is a multiple choice vote, so you can vote on all the races that you like).

We know from the Viera concepts that even if they bring an existing race to Hydaelyn, they will tweak it a bit to make it more unique (sort of how Chocobo and Moogles don't look exactly the same across the worlds), so lets talk about whatever tweaks they might've given the existing races. With Aegyl, I think having feathers instead of hair would be a nice way to make it less "Hyur-with-wings" as well as making them lithe and athletic. With Lilty, I think making them like Althea, Jegran and Cid in Crystal Bearers could work (the traditional Lilty Lalafellin look is for children in Crystal Bearers), but with more vegetation traits (flowers for ears to match the leaves for hair?).

Since Miqo'te are feline, maybe they could make Ronso more lupine to fill the werewolf niche? And speaking of Something Else? Maybe an insectoid race? With antennas, and a choice of different wings (butterfly, bee, dragonfly and so on). With Yuke lore, maybe Yukes could be the product of the Garlean Empire experimenting with Allagan tech? Explaining why they don't appear in history.

What kind of tweaks would you guys like to see in your favorite races if they somehow made it to Eorzea?

I would actually like them to create brand new race rather than to copy paste from other final fantasy game.

I agree completely with this.
I don't really want FFXIV to turn into a "fanservice" game so an original race would be preferable. Wings would be cool.

Well, nearing 100 votes and Viera has more than twice the votes of the joint two runner ups (Crossbreeds and Something Else?). I'm not really surprised about Viera, bunny ears aside, they would bring a tall, graceful option (whereas Elezen are tall and lanky and Roegadyn are tall and muscular) on top of the popularity of the Ivalice Alliance behind them. Crossbreeds were second to the Viera-like option in the official poll, as well.

Third place is Burmecian/Cleyran, which works for the people wanting beasts without looking ferocious. Also, IX is often highly regarded among Final Fantasy fans.

Fourth place is joint Gria/Aegyl/Ronso. Ronso is the beastly beast option on this poll. Gria and Aegyl are pretty much Au Ra and Midlanders with wings, so I assume the wings are the part that people want ?

How many of these threads do we need? We havent even got our first new race yet and already people are wanting something else...

Welcome to forum complaining. No matter what is added, no matter how good it is, no matter how numerous and dense content is, people will continue to ask for more even before they get it.

If they ever did add a race with wings, the wings would have to be vestigial. SE is pretty firm about their "No one choice should be a complete advantage over another choice" in regards to character creation.
Also adding wings would make the art department cry. Our models can barely handle tails :P

None of the listed ones.
Too many of them fall into niches already filled by existing races or just wouldn't work with the necessary body shape restrictions due to gear and such.

Personally I would like to see some non-human+animal hybrid races, such as beings with elemental traits where the different sub-races of them could be elementally aligned and have differences based on that.

I'd like them to use this race concept they developed and showcased at the FATE in Tokyo. FFXIV is possibly the only MMO currently out there with no beastly (Non-human) looking playable races.

I feel like Viera are one of those "not 'if' but 'when'" races though I hope they make them more animal-like and not "well, bunny ears and a tail and call it a day" kind of thing.
