I propose a Duel/Spar system like Dc Universe Online has, Invite a player to duel and then you can pvp within an enclosed space.

There will be option to ignore all duels or you put an icon next to a players name indicating that person wants to duel and available to duels.

Just think it would be fun to duel/spar in open world and get people into PVP- playing the game longer and having more things to do in game.

Not happening. SE regards individual players fighting one another as counter to the Final Fantasy ethos. They wouldn't do it in FFXI, they're not going to do it here. PvP in Final Fantasy MMOs has always been in teams based on the city you pledged allegiance to. I don't see that changing in the foreseeable future.

I'm a little confused as to why you're so sure this won't happen, with only references of their previous MMO to back up your statement. Anyone who had actually played FFXI and came to FFXIV can effortlessly list numerous changes that had been made going into FFXIV.

    Here, I'll list a few.
    • Non-chocobo mounts
    • No limit break quests, even confirmed not to happen for 3.0
    • Obvious class differences (SMN, BRD, SCH, DRK)
    • Easing of crafting difficulty
    • No skill chains or magic bursts
    • Not having to skill up things such as evasion, summoning magic, weapon proficiency
    • Open world bosses giving credit to everyone regardless of who pulled
    • Quest based leveling instead of flat grinding
    • Male Miqo'te
    • Female Roegadyn
    • Au'ra

Just because FFXI did it one way doesn't mean FFXIV won't do it another. It's not the same game. Sure, I think FFXI did some things better, but I've moved on. I think people might be happier once they learn to do the same.

Players simply do not attack other players on an individual basis in Final Fantasy. It's completely counter to the central theme of teamwork that is FF. It's not happening. If we ever get individual duels I will pay you 10,000 gil. Then I'll probably quit.

actually i've heard it's because while /duel requests can be blocked, you can't necessarily block the people dueling in public spaces, so they'd need to create separate instances, which would put a strain on the servers and kinda go against the epeen value of a duel in the first place.
Basically it's either a little work for something that would just annoy players, or too much work for something no one would ever use.

I know it's deader than dead, but Wolves Den is a thing. Also is it even possible to make that a rule when there has only really been one other Final Fantasy MMO? That really seems absurd to me... More so when "diversa ab final fantasy undecim" could practically be the latin motto for this game... There is no sensible reason for not having duels in this game, would certainly give us PvPers something better to do than wait hours for one match...

There is absolutely no reason they cannot add duels in a similar fashion to Triple Triad; Limit it to certain areas. Though that limit is stupid for Triple Triad, but I'd actually agree with duels being limited to certain areas. Section off a part of Wolves Den Pier for duels, gods knows the zone needs some traffic... Heck, just instance the duels and let two people queue up together to spar, can even "balance" it that way by limiting it to same Job verses same Job. inb4 "then matches will never end because both people are the same", because apparently personal skill isn't a factor in PvP... Not that that's needed though, if you want to put yourself in a one sided match, more power to you.

So just call it sparring? Surely swordsman and martial artists spar in the FF universe?

Don't know if anyone has said this yet, because 11 pages is alot to read through. But I remember accidentally and on purpose hitting my own team in many of the old FF games (Never really played 11)

Myself, it would not bother me if they did offer a auto deny and maybe the text could be seen if the auto deny is turned off. IE: SoandSo and challenged you to a duel.
