Should Alexander hard drop highest item level gear?

It always puzzled me as to why SE allowed purchased gear to be the same item level as bahamut coils when considering risk vs reward that has always been a staple in MMO's. I understand that range is an issue in drops and sometimes people have very bad luck but I hope the new tomes do not let you buy the same item level gear that drops in Alexander raids. At minimum only let you aquire the new high end tomes from alexander hard mode only.

You should not be able to churn out easy 20 minute dungeons for tomes that let you purchase gear on par with a much harder raid requiring more time and energy. Even casual people I know always managed to get far into the bahamut coil runs.

In 2.5, carboncoat was made available through WoD (albeit weekly), This is allowing content to get progressively easier as time passes and opens it up to a broader range of players. We're at the point of the game where FCoB is more than 4 months old, and 3.0 is right around the corner.

The higher end tomestones also drop in fairly small amounts, on top of the weekly lockout that it takes time to even gear up from those anyway. I can't even gear up anything past my secondary class (tanks) before 3.0 rolls because of the cap, and I've been playing since 2.2, capping my tomestonse every week.

Understand that Coil may have the 'best' drops (best being subjective, there's some Dreadwyrm pieces that are only good for iL) but they were released months ago. In a game where gearing is the goal you can't leave people to get left behind. Especially with Heavensward just around the corner. As such, Square gave everyone the option of an alternate means of gearing in the form of tome and crafted gear (some of the iL 110 crafted gear is by and far better than Dreadwyrm, and that's before materia). This sentiment that Coil equivalent gear should only be obtainable by those who can complete Coil is entirely selfish and shouldn't be promoted to any degree. "You aren't the only hero."

The staggered system worked perfectly and they should very well stick with it, OP seems to want to lock out decent gear to anyone but the most elite of the elite.

I am all for gradual weakening of raids and even at the end period before the expansion. The issue I feel is the uncapped version of tomes should be only able to be aquired when the content is most relevant and only in the hard mode of the raid. Allow the lesser tomes to be freely aquired in dungeons and the new version of CT but alexander should be the only way to aquire the best tomes until the first round of nerfs hit the raid.

But... the uncapped tomes only give the weathered/unweathered gear... Why do you want to lock ilvl 100 tomestones behind ilvl 130 content? Unless you meant the poetics, but you're still locking inferior items behind a "higher" tiered content; Ironworks are only ilvl 120, and you cant get it to 130 unless you get stuff out of raid content anyway, on top of the ilvl 120 weapons requiring a tomestone that's also locked in coil.

    I respectfully disagree.

Edit: Ok, I really can't just leave it at that. With the 20 ilvl gap between tome sets right now, by only dropping the top level tome in the hardest raid, it would primarily prevent new players from gearing to a sufficiently high level to get into the raids, at all. Currently, if a newer player farmed out tomes for several weeks, then they should have competitive enough gear that a raid group could take them. If players that were not doing raids had absolutely no access to i120+ gear, then it would only make them even less desirable to step into raid level content.

No, it isn't. Heavensward's equivalent to CT will come in patch 3.1, Alexander Normal Mode will be on par with the coil raids after nerf from what I've read.
