Understand that Coil may have the 'best' drops (best being subjective, there's some Dreadwyrm pieces that are only good for iL) but they were released months ago. In a game where gearing is the goal you can't leave people to get left behind. Especially with Heavensward just around the corner. As such, Square gave everyone the option of an alternate means of gearing in the form of tome and crafted gear (some of the iL 110 crafted gear is by and far better than Dreadwyrm, and that's before materia). This sentiment that Coil equivalent gear should only be obtainable by those who can complete Coil is entirely selfish and shouldn't be promoted to any degree. "You aren't the only hero."
False. If you really think i110 non melded gear is better than anything i130, you need to research stat weights.Understand that Coil may have the 'best' drops (best being subjective, there's some Dreadwyrm pieces that are only good for iL) but they were released months ago. Well, I was using gear I have as a reference. I haven't melded my arachne healer legs yet but it's still better than anything else I can get for my conjurer.
Huh?
Arachne stats in HQ:
VIT 41
MND 39
ACC 8
DET 20
PIE 31
4 DET = 1 MND. So the 20 DET are 5 MND. So it would be like 44 MND
DW Pants of Healing:
VIT 53
MND 50
PIE 36
ACC 9
Crit 33
Even without the crit, the DW pants are stronger than the Arachne non melded pant and you would need to meld 26 DET and 5 PIE to reach the same level (ignoring crit and the 12 points VIT).
Youmissed the very first announcement of Heavendsward in autum? There it got said.

He's not that far off when you consider something like Kirimu Coat vs Augmented top vs Dreadwyrm, especially when a lot of the bard pieces either lack accuracy, or has it paired with skill speed. Granted this comes far into the game when you already have XYZ dreadwyrm pieces versus init ally gearing up, but I didn't have any trouble with hp checks when I was doing T13 with my kirimu coat still.
But that doesn't make sense. You don't need the best gear in the game if all you're going to do is sit around and run Primals, FATES, and dungeons all day. You want better gear than the base level, and that's understandable. You'll always have that, though. Relic weapons, tome gear, and 24-man gear (and now Normal mode Alexander).
The people who are interested in high-end content deserve adequate rewards for what they do, though. And I'm happy 3.0 is going this direction. What, it's fair for the 'casual' crowd to want raid gear, and highest level gear for half the dedication, but the 'hardcore' crowd can't want anything to show for their efforts? Now that is selfish. They find the strategies that work, they release guides, they spend progression getting antsy at each other, they spend day and night in some of the most handicapped conditions, trying to beat the odds. And in the end? You, for the most part, can't tell them apart from the rest of the people in the game.
I guess the simplest way to say it is... not having the best weapons and armor in the game won't kill you. It might even motivate you, or other players to improve so that they can get the gear that they want. It's not a bad thing, I don't think.

The thing is, when FCoB came out in 2.4, the only way to get ilvl 130 (whether it be dreadwyrm or augmented) was in FCoB. There was no other way to get the carbonstuff outside of FCoB until 2.5.
Unless you're referring to the natural degradation of making said gear easier to obtain as time passes, then I'd disagree, especially when you start to near the end of that patch cycle.
The last part is up in the air because some of the dreadwyrm pieces are just straight up bad for some classes. Some augmented pieces are instead BiS for my bard. But I wouldn't be able to get some of those anyway at the release of FCoB unless I was able to do FCoB for those carbontwines to begin with.
That's a really bad mentality to have in an MMO, this game's method of letting people gear without even setting foot in a raid is a complete first for the genre. No other MMO lets you do that that I have heard of, you actually have to work for your gear and if you can't beat the bosses? Well, tough luck! Also consider that the story only goes up to an i90 requirement, so if you aren't raiding, you also don't NEED that gear.Understand that Coil may have the 'best' drops (best being subjective, there's some Dreadwyrm pieces that are only good for iL) but they were released months ago. People who work the hardest should get the most rewards, it's not selfish, it's only fair. And they do since people who don't do coil will never be best in slot (full poetics scholars make me shudder....).
I honestly must say I hate it when games cater to the lazy, like putting carbontwines and coats on hunts and the weekly, but that's how MMOs stay in business these days....
