You'd have to prove to me that numbers wise there is are enough players who want this to dedicate development time to content that what I am feeeling a majority of the players would not use.Because it's so unfair to give people that want to play the game something to do that isn't 5 minutes re-entry, instanced repop poop items.
If you don't want to camp NMs no one is forcing you. (Just like no one is forcing you to level up hurrdurr). You just don't want people to have better items than you because you can't commit the same amount of time as them.
If someone really considers themselves "casual" they wouldn't care either way.
Want to know what I seriously think? I seriously think you don't even play the game.

You know that instanced dungeons take magnitudes more time to develop than open world NMs right?
For a dungeon they have to design the area, place encounters in it that flow well, balance it all for the size group they intend over the time limit they're looking for, and add all kinds of finishing touches. And then players spam it and get all the stuff they want in a few weeks. For open world bosses you just throw on some super high stats, a long repop timer, and some good gear. People will camp it for years. Unique models for bosses and equipment are of course a separate concern, and common to both events.
The majority of players probably prefers instances, you're right, but it takes very little work on the part of the developers to placate those who want to camp rare pops for rare drops.

But then the issue would be having to deal with bots in open world events, which have ot be a huge headache for any development team.

so why not just make mobs spawn randomly in an area instead of in the exact same place. That way it can't be botted and it makes fights more interesting because it can spawn somewhere easy, or somewhere in the middle of high agro mobs. Doesn't even have to be completely random, can be like 10-20 diff spots, or maybe randomly in one of 3 or 4 zones. That would make the world cooler because noobs might come across a giant dragon one day, or be doing leves and get to watch a party or alliance take down a huge behemoth

There are bots that can pick up on things like that. I never got the name of it but there was one for XI that would scan the mobs in a zone to find DI/SW.so why not just make mobs spawn randomly in an area instead of in the exact same place. so make it a fixed time pop. Lets say it pops every 19 hours ON THE DOT. that way linkshells will be out there with their players spread out and it will be luck (increased by the numbers you have) that gets you claim.
There are a lot of solutions.
